We must be about the same age. I od'd on historicals a long time ago, but ocassionally a series or cover will catch my eye. When I first started reading romances, it was historicals if you wanted any "adult" scenes or Harlequins which were incredibly tame except for those spicy, red hot Harlequin Presents (the red hot queen was Anne Mathers who would sometimes put in two scenes) with the one love scene half way through which would be rated PG today :-).

MamaKitty who said:
I've read a few m/m books... most of them I didn't really care for, until I read Josh Lanyon's "Somebody Killed His Editor". Holy crap, what a great book! That led me to other books and more steamy manlub! I think a large part of why I didn't care for them before is because I was reading the kind that didn't focus on the romance part of the relationship, just the physical. And while I like the physical part of the relationship, I need that connection that comes with the romance part. Am I making sense? Yeah, I'm babbling now.

BIG DAY #30 of my Birthday Bash with a Blog Takeover with Author Teresa D'Amaro

Jun 16, 2010

Photobucket
Happy Birthday to ME! Happy Birthday To ME. Happy birthday to MEEEEE. Happy birthday to ME.

OH wait,,,,, this isn't about my birthday. Okay, yes it is. See, today is Jo Jo's birthday but it's also MY birthday! How kewl is that? She's been having this great big thirty days of her birthday, and so I've been watching, of course, pretending it's my celebration. Cuz after all, we're twins! Okay, maybe not, but that's okay. LOL *jojo pops in* ....of course we are! *poof...she's gone again*

So I decided to hijack Jo Jo's blog to celebrate! Course to do that, I have to do something special in return for Jo Jo. So HAPPY BIRTHDAY JO JO! **Dancing around the room** Now, what to do for that birthday. I could sing for her! Oh wait, I tried that above and almost chased everyone of you away. We know that is so not the right thing to do. Wait, I could give her a gift. Yeah, that's the ticket!

I could give her a kitty cat. Oh, wait, that doesn't work. Giving live animals can be dangerous. I could give her a new car! oh, that takes money. Nope, don't have enough of that laying around here. I know! I can give her a werewolf! But which one? I have to keep mine here at my house. I'm afraid my heroines are a bit too possessive of their wolves to give them up. And since they still hang out in my head, I can't quite share them with JoJo on her blog without getting disowned! They get upset if I even think of it, and a growly werewolf so is not the best way to be able to write. That nasty growling you hear in the background is Nora threatening my life if I let Ryland so much as peek in the room! (Yikes!!! Go away Ryland. Don't you even stick one hair of that sexy head in this room! I like my life!) So I had to look elsewhere.

My favorite NOT my werewolf is pretty hot, though. Well, if you're ready to battle Runa, his chosen lifemate. Who is this very hot werewolf? Why it's Shade, from Larissa Ione's Desire Unchained. Isn't he hot? *jojos pops back in.....Licks pretty, yummie man candy.......runs back to teresas blog*

Ok, so looks aren't everything, right? Mouthwatering or not, he still has to have some personality to him. What is it about Shade that I like so much? It's his personality. He's a little boy, always afraid of his future and what will happen to him, but he craves something he thinks he can't have. *jojo pokes in head* Plus he's HAWT

I think this paragraph says it all:

Still, Shade would be willing to take the chance... If not for the curse. He couldn't risk falling in love with the female he bonded himself to -- and he knew he would fall, and fall hard. The desire for a loving family had been bred into him on his mother's side, and every day he ached for what he couldn't have.

See, even though Shade didn't start out as a werewolf shapeshifter, he did have a wolf mentality to start. He always wanted a family. It's what makes those wolf shifters so hot, isn't it? They aren't afraid of a little responsibility. They ache for the desire to love and be loved. And to wrap that love around their chosen mate. They are affectionate and kind, unless of course you try to hurt one of their own. Then he reacts, powerful, dangerous, deadly.

And what happens when this werewolf knows his mate will cause his death? Does he kill her, like his brothers suggest?

You tell me. Since I'm taking over Jo Jo's blog, I thought I'd do a giveaway or two. I have in my hands a copy of Tigress by the Tail, *jojo squeeeees* which is no longer in print. I'm willing to give an autographed copy to one commenter! Just think, it's now considered rare! And I have a copy of Dark Succession, in ebook only, available to one winner!

Leave a comment, tell me what you think of Shade, From Larissa Ione's Desire Unchained.

Also, if you tell me you have read Dark Succession or SheWolf and are able to tell me Nora's Father's name/Kieran's brother's name, I'll enter you in a contest to win a Calendar and mouse pad! Ok, so it's not the gold mine I want it to be, but it is a kewl calendar. With lots of photos of wild, and dangerous animals, including lions, tigers and bears, errr wolves. :D (Sorry, no bears yet). And the mouse pad is just plain awesome!

Happy Birthday Jo Jo, I hope you like Shade as much as I do! *jojo sends twitter update* ummmmm ya!

Now for a little bit about me before we get to the giveaway rules.

~What are your favorite types of Heroes & / or heroines?
I tell people my favorite heroes are "Little boys in big, dangerous bodies". Men who haven't quite grown up yet, but still have this massive alpha part to them that fights with their boyish ways.

For heroines, I love women who are strong emotionally, and feminine. I'm not as much into the Kick Ass heroines, not because I don't like them, but after a while they seem unrealistic. I want someone who has to overcome with inner strength.

~Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Gee, I'm just me. I was born in Georgia, claim both Georgia AND Alabama as my "State of origin". LOL. I'm retired Air Force, where I served 20 years in both the Supply and Meteorological career fields. I'm married to a wonderful man named Doug, and have 2 dogs who think they're children! Watch it, or I'll start pulling out the "baby pictures". *jojo emails pics of her 5 (children) puppies*

~Fav color
Emerald GREEN!

~Fav Scent
Stargazer Lillies

~Fav Flavor
Potatoes with butter. Ahh yes. Lots of butter (my weakness)

~Fav shampoo - None

~Fav movies - I'm a HUGE movie goer, but don't have one that I can say is a favorite of mine. Unlike how I am with books (I only re-read over and over books that I truly adore), I watch a lot of movies over and over. My favorite changes from year to year. Right now, I like the artistic skill brought to Avatar, while I loved the exciting action of Iron Man 2.

~ How did you get into writing?
LOL that's such a long story. But other than the typical "I always wanted to write" like every other author, I blame Christine Feehan. I had quit my job, and for three straight months did nothing but read. Of course her books where what I read. I'd read the entire series, but not in order. So I sat down and read each of them in order. One after the other. Averaging one book per day. Finally, something inside me started wanting to help the world "progress". I wrote a fan-fiction (I did not use any of her characters, though I did use her world). No I do NOT have a copy of that anymore. LOL. It was good, but I wasn't happy. I wanted MY own world. Thus, an author was born. :D

~Whats a typical writing day for you like?
My typical day starts with my "day job". I work from home for it as well, so that's good. During the day, when my work day is slow, or during breaks, I drop in on twitter, say hi to all my reader and writing buddies. The nice thing about writing is I've made tons of friends. After work, I fix dinner, and might watch an hour or two of tv. Then I come into the computer room/or on the laptop, and I sit to write. Due to the day job, I only write until 11-midnite or so, though if my work hours ever change, I can see me writing till 2-3 am. That's when I'm my most productive.

~Whats the best thing about being an author?
Two best parts: The accomplishment of finishing an awesome manuscript, one I'm very proud of, and having people tell me how much they enjoy my work.

~Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Believe.

When I started writing I would suddenly doubt my work (Ok, I still do that). Writing is solitary, and it's hard to keep up the belief in yourself while you are alone. Always believe in yourself. Never throw something out because you think it's bad, because next week you'll be in love with it again. Always believe. And when you can't believe, step away and come back in a few days.

Day # 29 Birthday Bash with M/M Author Libby Drew

Jun 15, 2010

Welcome to Day #29 of JoJos 30 Day Birthday Bash.Today I am so excited to introduce you to an author I met through Goodreads, Libby Drew. I won her book State of Mind for Review, which is M/M, and was my very first M/M read. And now I am totally Hooked!!! June 4th was Libby's Birthday, So don't forget to wish her a Happy Birthday too! So help me welcome Libby, and hope you enjoy her Interview on M/M Romance!

Libby Drew

Thanks for the invitation. I’m excited and honored to be here. JoJo recently read and reviewed my novel, State of Mind, and has kindly asked me here to talk about writing M/M romance.

What is M/M romance?
It’s a subgenre of romantic fiction. In M/M stories you’ll find men who fall in love, just as they do in traditional romance books. The difference is that they fall in love with each other.

Don’t let the term ‘subgenre’ fool you. The market is growing every day, and within it, you’ll find regency and historical romances, as well as stories about vampires, werewolves, and ghosts. You’ll discover modern day love stories, mysteries, and books about spies. There are political thrillers, science fiction novels, and fantasy epics. The plots range in complexity, the settings are rich and diverse, and the protagonists come from all walks of life.

The main characters find love against all odds. Their stories are exciting and romantic, sexy and funny, and even make you cry. See? Not so different.

What sets M/M books apart from traditional romances, besides the gender of the romantic pair?
Many intelligent, informed people have weighed in on this issue. Most agree that one of the biggest differences – and a welcome one – is the inherently equal power dynamic between the main characters. These men balance their relationship in more roundabout ways than a couple in a traditional romance might. They struggle for that balance. Sometimes they fight for it. The strength of their bond rises from this process.

Who reads these books? Who writes them?
M/M romances are written primarily by women, for women, but that’s not the whole picture. Recent polls show a rise in readership among gay men as well.

So you’re writing your stories for women?
No, not really, which is why I hesitated before answering the above question, even though it’s statistically true. Above all, I write to tell a story. I work to bring a set of characters to life, put them through the wringer, and give them a happy ending. I want to do what all authors strive to do: entertain.

Are there any special challenges in writing M/M romance?
Writing any book is a challenge. Create unique, moving plots with memorable characters, then crafting those elements into a seamless, readable manuscript is tricky. But yes, I have personal challenges that I try to meet whenever I sit down to write a M/M romance.

Above all, I want the emotions to feel true and believable. I’m a woman, so delving into the male psyche is a challenge. “I love how you write ‘real’ men,” a reader said to me recently. She clarified that she enjoyed how my characters are strong and independent, aren’t overly emotional despite their passionate natures, and, frankly, are rough and tumble. That’s largely true of the characters I create, but the bottom line is, I don’t set out to write about ‘real’ men; I set out to write about men. It’s not as easy as it sounds, and that is probably my biggest personal challenge.

Tell me about your stories…
I currently have one novel, State of Mind, and one novella published with Dreamspinner Press. But I also offer a host of free fiction at my website and LiveJournal, for anyone interested in examples of the M/M romance genre or of my writing style. (link below)

Beneath Lake Redemption is my newest release. It tells the story of a man determined to debunk the supernatural aspect of some strange goings-on, and how the truth of those strange happenings changes him.

Beneath Lake Redemption

Fascinated by a rash of unexplained events on Lake Redemption and undeterred by the locals’ warnings or talk of “people in the lake,” Syd sets out to uncover the truth. Soon he’s experiencing the terrors of the lake for himself, and he’s not alone: he rescues David Cooper from the mysterious waters. Trapped with his attractive and willing companion, Syd begins a fight for his life and sanity that can only be won with secrets from beneath Lake Redemption

State of Mind

Grier Crist works for the Organization—a group of Gifted “agents” who use their powers to keep peace, help those in need, and combat criminal influence around the globe. When a suspicious bombing drives Grier to break his ties with the group and go into hiding, the head of the Organization sends model agent Alec Devlin after him, claiming Grier is a murderer and traitor to their cause.
Grier manages to turn the tables and take Alec hostage long enough to convince him that the Organization is lying and hiding something sinister. The two strike a bargain: amidst enemies who want them dead, friends with their own agendas, and the growing passion between them, they'll work together to bring down the Organization in order to protect the world… and each other. My Review of State of Mind HERE

Day #28 Birthday Bash with Author Larissa Ione

Jun 14, 2010

Welcome to Day #28 of JoJos 30 Day Birthday Bash!. Today we have one of my Favorite Authors Larissa Ione! So help me give a warm Welcome to Larissa and her HAWT Demons!

Larissa Ione

~How do you think romance has changed in the last 30 years? It's definitely gotten sexier and edgier. I love that!

~What type of romance do you prefer to read? I love paranormal, historical, and military romance

~What are your favorite types of Heros & / or heroines? Gimme an alpha male every time, and heroine who can stand up to him.

~Can you tell us a little about yourself? I'm a full time author, but in my past life, I was a meteorologist, EMT, professional dog trainer, and an Air Force veteran. I'm now lucky enough to write full time, since I'm married to a Coast Guard husband, and we move a lot. I have the best job in the world!

~Fav color Blue

~Fav Scent Vanilla

~Fav Flavor Amaretto

~Fav shampoo Aveda

~Fav movies Star Trek -- pretty much anything science fiction or paranormal

~Can you tell us about your favorite / strangest fan experience? You know, I don't really have a single one, but I have to say, I love, love, love when I talk to readers who have gotten the Demonica caduceus tattoo. It blows me away every time.

~Do you read any reviews on your books? If I'm not pointed directly to them, no. Bad reviews can really screw with my head, so I try to avoid them.

~Do you read your own books after they make it to final print? No, but I do keep an ARC of each book to flip through to find things I might need -- references, history, etc.

~What do you like to Read? Your Favorite Genre? Romance, Fantasy (Robert Jordan is a favorite,) and historical fiction

~Do you have a favorite book /series? Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. Love it!

~Did you always want to be a writer? Oh, yes. I was writing stories when I was very young. I used to go to my town's used book store and spend hours there. It was the best part of my childhood, and I used to dream of seeing my book on the shelves.

~How old were you when you began to write? I was around seven when I started writing stories. Mostly about animals.

~Is writing your full time job? Fortunately, yes, but it took a long time to get to this point, and it's only because my husband's job is a guaranteed steady income.

~Whats a typical writing day for you like? I get up with my son at 6:30, get him sent off to school, and then I sit down to write about about 8:00 AM. I usually goof off for an hour or so, catching up on email or updating my blog/facebook page/twitter, etc. Once I get going, I write until around 3:30, when my son comes home. If I'm not on deadline, I'll stop for the day. If on deadline, I write until I go to bed at around 10:00.

~Do you set a daily writing goal? I try to get 1200 words a day when I'm not on deadline. If I am, I try to get closer to 2000

~When and where do you like to write? Living room couch, but that's only because I don't have an office yet. We're finishing our basement, and I'll have my own space then. I can't wait!

~Are there any processes you use when writing? Do you keep journals, sticky notes, chicken scratch on the back of receipts? I have no process. Seriously, I'm a mess! Every book has a different process, and I'm not organized at all! *hangs head in shame*

~Do you prefer to write on a computer, typewriter, or paper and pen? Computer -- Mac laptop!

~Whats the best thing about being an author? The readers!

~What are you reading at the moment? Gena Showalter's The Darkest Passion. It's so awesome!

~Do you have any advice for aspiring writers? Learn the rules. Live them. Breathe them. And then throw them out the window. I don't believe in rules, but I really think you need to know them so you know how to break them effectively.

~How man books / series have you written? Seventeen, which includes several novellas and two books that aren't yet out.

~Can you tell us about some of them? Well, I have written contemporary romance, erotic romance, and paranormal romance, so I've got a pretty broad range to choose from. I'll give you the link to my books page...that'll probably be a lot easier for your readers to wade through!

~Is there a Genre you have always wanted to write in but for reasons you have not been able to? Oh, yes! Many! I'd love to write horror. Historical fiction. Fantasy. But the one I REALLY want to write? I want to write a Star Trek novel. It's my dream. Someday I WILL. :)

~What are 3 things that are “must haves” for you when you sit down to write? Coffee, coffee, and coffee.

~Do you have a new release, or a new release coming out soon? Can you tell us about it? I do! Sin Undone will release on August 24th, and it's the fifth book in the Demonica series, about a succubus who is one of a kind, and a vampire-werewolf who is charged with making her pay for starting a plague that is killing his people. I had SO much fun writing it. For more info and an excerpt, here's the link: http://larissaione.com/blog/books/sin-undone/

~Do you have a webiste or blog that your readers can keep up with you and your books? Yep! Here's my blog home page: http://larissaione.com/blog/blog-home/

~Did you have to do any type of research before writing Sin Undone? Well, like the other books in the Demonica series, which are set in and around an underworld hospital, there was some medical research involved. Fortunately, I do have a medical background, and I also had a lot of help from actual medical doctors. Who rock.

~Can you tell us a little bit about when and where the story takes place? It takes place pretty much all over the place. New York, Montana, Canada, Russia...it's an international affair...

~Do you have any idea how many book are going to be in this series? Right now, it ends at book 5, but book 5 leads into a spinoff set in the same world. You'll see the Demonica characters often, and some of them play large roles, like Reaver, Kynan, and Arik.

Sin Undone

HER TOUCH IS DEADLY
As the only female Seminus demon ever born, master assassin Sinead Donnelly is used to being treated like an outcast. She spent decades enslaved, and now vows she’ll die before she’ll relinquish her freedom again. Then Sin’s innate ability to kill her enemies goes awry: She creates a lethal new werewolf virus that sparks a firestorm of panic and violence.
HIS HUNGER CAN’T BE DENIED
Half-werewolf, half-vampire Conall Dearghul is charged with bringing in Sin to face punishment for the plague. And she’s no stranger: He’s bound to her by blood, and the one sexual encounter they shared has left him hungering for her raw sensuality. Worse, Sin is the underworld’s most wanted and Con soon learns he’s the only one who can help her . . . and that saving her life might mean sacrificing his own.
