A woman who's a fox—a kitchen maid who's a princess—and a walnut with a wardrobe!
Princess Hallgerd hides where no one will be likely to find her: working as a cook's dogsbody, lighting fires, peeling potatoes, and toting kettles. Her only friend is Nanna, her family's longtime caregiver. On the plus side, she's found out that 'Nanna' is really Carae Mná, a centuries-old Irish witch. On the minus side, they're both in hiding from the witch's oldest enemy, a mage who has taken over Hallgerd's father and her land. How can Hallgerd win back her home and Nanna her human skin?
And what about that wardrobe in the walnut?
Pelzmantel spins a tale of medieval magic where people and things are seldom what they seem to be on the surface. Infused with genuine magical lore and history, this inspired retelling of the Grimm Brothers' "Allerleirau" uncovers the seldom-glimpsed world behind the glitz: the hard work that keeps a castle running and the secrets lives of women in the Middle Ages. This edition includes three additional magical stories (one never before published) and an essay on medieval magic.

JJBC-Do you have any hobbies?
JJBC-What do you like to read?
JJBC-Can you tell us some of your favorite books you've read?
KAL-Beowulf, Northanger Abbey, The Bloody Chamber, Lucky Jim, Njal's Saga, Wives and Daughters, Jane Eyre, Barchester Towers, Alice in Wonderland and a million billion more.
JJBC-Who are some of your favorite authors?
KAL-Oh, too many to name, but Beowulf, Chaucer, Marie de France, Shakespeare, Marlowe, Aphra Behn, Charlotte Brontë, Elizabeth Gaskell, Lewis Carroll --- and on and on. That's only a few from before the 20th century. It's impossible to list them all.
JJBC-If you can meet any author in person dead or alive, who would it be and why him/her?
KAL-Peter Cook because he is the funniest man who ever drew breath and gorgeous to boot! Pity he's dead.
AAD
JJBC-What part of AAD are you most looking forward to?
KAL-Stella runs a fab fun con, so there's nothing I'm NOT looking forward to. I'm sure it will be a hoot and a half.
JJBC-What do you hope to walk away with from AAD?
KAL-More readers! I always hope to find more folks who will love my books.
KAL-I really like the tiara! Hee -- I met so many fun new people, that's always wonderful. Writing is so solitary, it's always good to get out and be forced to be social for a while.
JJBC-Your Tiara's were so cute last year!!!! I can't wait to see what Stella comes up for you guys this year!
JJBC-Are you on any panels? if so can you tell us which ones to look for you on?
KAL-I'm on several: Paranormal Historical, Erotic Historical, Care and Feeding of Your Blog, Humor in Romance and -- not surprisingly -- the panel on managing Multiple Pen Names.
JJBC-WOW looks like you have a busy schedule! Its going to be so much fun!
Your Books:
JJBC-Can you share with us anything you are currently working on?
KAL-I'm working on a non-fiction book about masculinities and medieval films and thinking about starting my next novel, but I think it's missing something, so I've been dawdling. I do have a novel with my publisher, called Owl Stretching, but it won't likely come out before 2012. It's an urban fantasy in a slightly alternate history; the main character's a kind of acidental shaman whose spiritual guide is a bird named Harakka who lives in the past. And there are space aliens. Hee!
JJBC-What has been your favorite book you have written so far? why is this one your favorite?
KAL-My favourite book is always the next one because I think it will be better than anything I've written.
JJBC-Is there anything else you would like to share with us today?
KAL-I'm fairly new to the romance world but I love it. The readers are so passionate -- and hungry for more! I love to be around people who love to read.
JJBC- Ohhh welcome to the World of Romance !

LOL -- I suppose! It's a kind of "meta" fairytale after all.
my all time favorite fairy tale is Sleeping Beauty - I've one copy even on my bookshelf now...

My favorite was Little Red Riding Hood, thats probably why I prefer the Paranormal genre about werewolves today! tWarne419@aol.com
Ina -- thanks for dropping by! Sleeping Beauty is always interesting. I love the Italian version where she's woken up by the twins she's given birth to trying to nurse (naughty prince!).
Tetewa -- Wolves are hot! Have you read Angela Carter's "The Company of Wolves"? Fascinating take on the tale.
I will always love Cinderella.

And I love reading! It's a match made in heaven :-)
You can probably blame DIsney for this but my favorite fairy tale has ended up being Snow White and the Seven Dwarves and all because the uber-cute dwarves. They plus the Hi-Ho, Hi-Ho song always sticks in my mind.
Thanks for the giveaway and for opening it to worldwide entries.

Hi Carol!
A catchy song goes a long way and that's an awfully cheery one. I'm not a big Disney fan myself, but I understand its wide appeal.
I recently saw the movie Tangled so i would have to say my current fav is Rapunzel.

LOL -- I guess movies have the biggest influence. I haven't seen Tangled but I've heard some good things about it.
Hi all --
I've run the random number generator and the winner is Robin K. Thank you all for commenting and I invite you to consider dropping by for my two romance personas, C. Margery Kempe and Kit Marlowe, as they will have giveaways, too.
Hmmm -- I had posted this earlier, but it's not showing up. I used the random number generator and the winner was Robin K. Thank you all for coming and please consider coming back for my return in my two romance personas, Kit Marlowe and C. Margery Kempe.
My favorite Fairy tale is probably Beauty and the Beast.
