May 23, 2010
Welcome to Day #6 of JoJos Birthday Bash. Today we have the wonderful Eden Bradley. Help me give Eden a very warm welcome back to JoJo's Book Corner. And Head on down and get to know all about Eden Badley!!!
Eden Bradley
Today I want to talk about my latest release. THE BREEDER is the third book in the four-story continuity Wasteland series written with my blog-mates and best friends, the Smutketeers, authors R.G. Alexander, Lilli Feisty and Crystal Jordan. We built this world together, then chose one caste of women as our heroines, and as the basis for each of our stories. We started brainstorming this series about a year ago, so a lot of thought has gone into this. We constructed a 2012 apocalypse mythos, based on some of the scientific apocalypse theories, two separate religions, five sub-cultures, and some really amazing charters and complex relationships.
Here’s a blurb about the world,
and about my book,
THE BREEDER:
In 2012, the world came to a grinding halt as radiation hit from a massive solar storm. Crops died, animals perished, cities fell and humans became little more than beasts themselves. Under the threat of starvation, civility was reduced to mere memory. Only the strongest men survived, and physically weaker women and children wasted to nothingness.
More than a century later, humanity struggles in the desert Wasteland that was left. The solar radiation rendered most women infertile, and the population dwindles more with each year that passes. Scattered up and down coasts, isolated cities eke out an existence from fishing, foraging and hunting for what little game remains. Outside the city walls, men face the threat of pirates and raiders.
Few women remain, divided into four classes—Wanderers, Whores, Breeders and Priestesses. They are as reviled as they are worshiped, a commodity any man must pay to touch.
There is only one rule in the Wasteland—survive.
Book One: THE WANDERER — Crystal Jordan May 4, 2010
Book Two: THE WHORE — Lilli Feisty May 11, 2010Book Three: THE BREEDER — Eden Bradley May 18, 2010
Book Four: THE PRIESTESS — R.G. Alexander May 25, 2010
Wasteland~Book Three:
THE BREEDER
She is destined to serve an entire city, but all she wants is one man. Maybe two.
Born to the Temple, Nitara knows the Great Goddess’s plan for her: to bring life into what is left of an arid and wasted Earth. Since puberty she has been trained to arouse and titillate, to ensure the continuation of the human race.
As is the custom, the man captured for her is strong of blood, though considered little more than a wild animal. Yet when she looks into his eyes, she sees no primitive creature, but the man whose face and hands haunt her sensual dreams.
For Akaash, a hunter and warrior, it’s his shame that he will be sacrificed to a goddess he doesn’t believe in, for a people who are not his own, leaving behind his Wanderer clan—and his bonded lover, Dhatri. Locked in the bowels of the Temple, he has a month to ponder his fate, all while falling helplessly under the spell of the virgin temptress who will soon take his life.
With each tortuously erotic encounter, however, Akaash realizes that Nitara is as much a prisoner as he. If he can just get a message out to Dhatri, there may be a slim chance both of them can escape...

The first three books are all available now through Samhain and through Amazon, and Book Four will be out in a few days. They can be read as stand-alones, but I’d recommend reading the entire series to really explore our world, and the final book ties everything up nicely. You can buy my book, THE BREEDER, here:

Get to Know Eden
~What type of romance do you prefer to read? I’m picky about my romance. While I couldn’t write it to save my life, I love to read romantic comedy and chick lit (even if no one calls it that anymore). I’ve also read some amazing YA recently. I know-odd for an erotic romance author, but sometimes it’s refreshing to read something outside of my own genre. I do love to read erotic romance, of course, and mostly I like contemporary or futuristic/sci-fi.
~Can you tell us a little about yourself? I live in Hollywood with my boyfriend and three cats. I’ve had a life-long love affair with art, and when I was ten I asked for a board game called ‘Masterpiece’, where you auction works of art, and the back of the cards had all sorts of information about the artist and the painting. I couldn’t find any other kids to play it with me-luckily my family members obliged-but I loved that game! My art-geekiness may have something to do with my fascination with tattoos-I have several and plan to have more work done. Art and tattoos show up in my books a lot! I also love shoes. And if there’s something really unique or a bit odd about a pair of really high stilettos, I must have them! Totally ridiculous for someone who lives in A) pajamas and fuzzy slippers while I write, or B) yoga pants and sneakers while I’m at my day job, which is teaching Pilates.
~Fav color-Green.
~Fav Scent-In perfume, I wear Gwen Stefani’s L. Otherwise, I love the scent of my boyfriend just out of the shower, and almost anything baking. Not necessarily simultaneously…J
~Fav Flavor-Chocolate!
~Fav shampoo-I have long hair, so I’m really particular about my hair products. I use Biolage for color treated hair (I’m also approximately 80% prematurely gray under here).
~Fav movies-This could be a very long list, but here are a few top picks: Blade Runner, The Unbearable Lightness of Being, Romeo + Juliet, Chocolat, Practical Magic, Pan’s Labyrinth, You’ve Got Mail, Love Actually, Quills, The Fifth Element. Lots of romance in there, but some dark stuff, too.
~Can you tell us about your favorite / strangest fan experience? Well, an erotica author always has some strange fan experiences. People tend to ask me for sex advice a lot, and too often tell me much more about themselves than I want to know!
~What are some of your favorite Hero / Heroine names? I am a bit obsessed with names. I can’t write a book until I know what everyone’s name is-my characters won’t let me. Here’s a partial list:
THE DARK GARDEN: Rowan and Christian
THE DARKER SIDE OF PLEASURE (a three-novella anthology): Jillian and Cameron, Cassandra and Marcus, Maggie and Damien.
FORBIDDEN FRUIT: Mia Rose and Jagger
A 21ST CENTRUY COURTESAN: Valentine and Joshua
THE SEEKING KISS: Hex, Nissa and Aleron (um...this one’s a ménage)
THE BREEDER (my novella in the WASTELAND series): Nitara, Akaash and Dhatri (another ménage)
NIGHT MOVES: Kate and Ian (hey-it’s not a ménage!)
~Do you read any reviews on your books? I try not to but I can’t look away!
~Do you read your own books after they make it to final print? Nope-never. By the time they’ve gone to print I’ve been looking at it for several months-as long as 18 months for a New York book, and I can’t stand to see where I could do another round of edits and make it better.
~Did you always want to be a writer? Yes, always. I learned to read when I was three years old because there were never enough people around to read to me. I discovered I could make up stories to entertain myself with by the time I was six. But I didn’t consider getting published until I was 40. It’s never too late!
~Is writing your full time job? It was for a few years, but then the publishing industry crashed along with the economy and I went to school and got certified to teach Pilates, which I do a few days a week at a physical therapy center. I love my job, and it’s the best thing in the world to force someone who is normally glued to a chair 14 hours a day to get up, exercise and interact with other people. But my goal is to get back to writing full time at some point-and pay another Pilates trainer to work with me.
~Are there any processes you use when writing? Do you keep journals, sticky notes, chicken scratch on the back of receipts? I’ve discovered the value-the necessity-of staying organized. Of course, I’m the creative type, so ‘organized’ is a fairly loose term. My desk, my computer monitor, my refrigerator, are covered in sticky notes. But for each book I also keep a document with notes on each character, locations, etc, as well as a chapter breakdown that I log as I go to mark important points I may need to refer to later: first kiss, revelations of family background, emotional turning points, etc.
~Do you prefer to write on a computer, typewriter, or paper and pen? Always on the computer-my desktop at home. I don’t do well with my laptop at the coffee shop, as so many writers do. I’m too easily distracted. Plus, I can’t resist the cookies and muffins. J But I make notes constantly on paper-I keep notepads next to my bed, in my purse, the glove-box of my car, in a bathroom drawer…
~What are you reading at the moment?
I just critiqued all of the books in my Wasteland series by my fellow Smutketeers. All awesome reads! I’m so proud of what we all did with this world we created. I think readers are going to love it!
Since then I’ve started a sort of awful romantic comedy that I may put down, so I won’t name it here. I’m not sure what I’ll pick up next.
~Do you have any advice for aspiring writers? Just keep at it. Perseverance is half the battle and know early on it’s not easy. Never stop learning about your craft. Never be so in love with your own words that you can’t mercilessly cut what needs to go to make a better book.
~How many books / series have you written? I’ve published 17 books still in print (5 more are out of print), and have 8 more that are contracted or to be released in coming months and are either completed or in progress. Out of those, 1 ½ more novels and three novellas are still to be written.
~Can you tell us about some of them?
My upcoming releases are:
BLOODSONG, Book Two in my Midnight Playground series, an erotic vampire/BDSM/futuristic/ménage story from Samhain Publishing. We’re still firming up a release date, but it’ll be either late summer or early fall. This book is Aleron’s story, one of the vampires from the first book, THE SEEKING KISS.
Next will be my debut Berkley Heat novel, written as Eve Berlin. PLEASURE’S EDGE is a contemporary BDSM erotic romance, very heavy on the romance, out in October, but available now for pre-order on Amazon. I’m so excited to launch my new pen name! And I really am in love with Dylan and Alec’s story.
Later this year SUMMER SOLSTICE, Book Three in my Celestial Seductions series, will be out from Samhain. This is a contemporary ménage story. It’s actually based on a previously published short story, but has been through a massive rewrite, the second hero added, and more than doubled in length. The only thing that really remains from the original are the heroine and primary hero’s names and the setting. It’s a much better, more complete story now, and I’m thrilled with the way it came out.
In January will be my first novel for Harlequin Spice, THE LOVERS, and I truly think this is one of the best things I’ve written. It’s a contemporary story about a complicated love triangle. Spice is a literary erotica line, but I think this book will please the more open-minded erotic romance reader.
~Do you have a website or blog that your readers can keep up with you and your books?
I have websites for each of my pen names: www.EdenBradley.com and www.EveBerlin.com The ‘Eve’ site is brand new, and I had the ‘Eden’ site redesigned just a few weeks ago to match-I think they’re gorgeous!
There’s also my group blog, the Smutketeers, with fellow authors and Wasteland series-partners-in-crime, Lilli Feisty, Crystal Jordan and R.G. Alexander: www.Smutketeers.com
We have a lot of fun at Smutketeers-we interview authors-and sometimes each other-run contests, and keep our readers posted about new releases and other news. We also have an awesome photo gallery full of pictures from the two Steampunk-costumed photo shoots we’ve done, one in the Nevada desert, and the most recent one at The Depot Rail Museum in Columbus, Ohio, where we all just met up for the Romantic Times Convention.
~Are any of your characters based on people in your life? I like to add my friends as secondary characters, like Crystal in my story THE ART OF DESIRE in the HOT NIGHTS, DARK DESIRES anthology. And Mischa, the best friend in PLEASURE’S EDGE, is really Lilli Feisty. I’ve also written about men I’ve dated who I’ve had unresolved issues with, like Joshua in A 21ST CENTURY COURTESAN.

Hadn't heard of this series but it sounds really good - not to mention HOT! How did you come up with the idea to write this series? Your vampire series sounds good too. Thanks for the interview.
Thanks JoJo.

Victoria-there is an interesting story behind the Wasteland series. I'm on a group blog, the Smutketeers, with four of my best friends, authors R.G. Alexander, Crystal Jordan and Lilli Feisty. The idea actually began with R.G. Alexander. She's very into the 2012 apocalypse thing, always researching the various theories. We started talking, asking ourselves and each other a lot of 'what if's'. What if the world nearly ended? What would that mean for the continuation of the human race? For women? Would they become something precious? Or enslaved? Or both? And if there was a shortage of women, society would have to become naturally bisexual to keep up with everyone's needs-and that's a *really* interesting idea! *G*
After almost a year of brainstorming and world-building, we each chose one caste of women and wrote our stories. You can find more info on the Smutketeers blog.
Thanks for stopping by today, everyone!
Scott-I'm pretty sure one of those gift credit cards would work. I think you can use them for anything...? They're also available on Amazon.
This new series from you and the other smutketeers sounds very exciting with its wonderful sci-fi twist. It's an intersting vision you all have and each book looks like they flow beautifully together. I would love to read them soon.

Great interview! And trust me people-I've read The Breeder-AMAZING. But then, everything Eden writes is ;)
Great interview and the series sounds fascinating. I just hope it doesn't foretell anything! I'm not a fan of tattoos but the guy on this site has some interesting ones.
Jennifer-my b/f got his 1st tattoo a week after I met him, and he's got several now, as well as some piercings. A nice bonus, since I have a li'l tattoo fetish.:) I have several myself. How do you all feel about tattoos on women/being tattooed yourself? (this is a favorite subject of mine-I'm crazy about body art!).
And thankya, RG. :)
