JJBC~Do you read any reviews on your books?
DG~ If I'm sent a review or I stumble across it I'll read it, but I don't go looking for them

JJBC~Do you read your own books after they make it to final print?
DG~By the time the book goes into print I've read it so many times that I don't want to read it again. Not to mention, the need an author feels to keep revising doesn't go away once the book is on the shelves. I'll end up seeing something I wished I had changed, so its better for my sanity if I don't read it again. :)

JJBC~What do you like to Read? Your Favorite Genre?
DG~Romance, of course, is my favorite genre. Historical romance is my favorite sub-genre. I'll read just about any historical romance, but Scottish Medieval is my favorite. I also enjoy reading paranormal - historical or contemporary.

JJBC~Do you have a favorite book /series?
DG~Oh, I have too many favorites. :D Shana Abe's Drakkon series is to die for! I'm anxious awaiting the next installment. I also love Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark. Then there's Lisa Kleypas' Hathaway series, and Christina Dodd's Chosen Ones series. One of my all time favorites is Karen Marie Moning's Highlander series.

JJBC~ How did you get into writing?
DG~lol. The voices in my head wouldn't leave me alone. I finally sat down and tried to write.

JJBC~Did you always want to be a writer?
DG~I've always loved to read, but no, it wasn't my dream when I was little. I wanted to be a professional ballet dancer.

JJBC~How old were you when you began to write?
DG~To write seriously in pursuit of publication? I was 24

JJBC~Is writing your full time job?
DG~ Yes

JJBC~What’s a typical writing day for you like?
DG~I wake up, get the kids up, dressed, breakfast, and out into the day for school. Then I work out and read emails, facebook, and twitter. By 9 am I have my book open and ready to begin writing. I take small breaks here and there to chat with friends online and eat lunch. Other than that, I don't get up from my desk until my pages are done. I'm usually finished by the time I need to pick up the kids from school.

JJBC~Do you set a daily writing goal?
DG~Yes I do. I write 20 pages a day.

JJBC~When and where do you like to write?
DG~I write Monday-Friday in my office

JJBC~Are there any processes you use when writing? Do you keep journals, sticky notes, chicken scratch on the back of receipts?
DG~Besides my music I have on, I keep two spiral notebooks beside me at all times. One lists the chapters and my daily page count. The other lists characters, where and when the book is taking place, as well as important info about the h/h like hair and eye color, any quirks they have, etc... Since I tend to write my books in series, I also keep track of the series in another spiral as well as on my computer so I don't get anything mixed up.

JJBC~Do you prefer to write on a computer, typewriter, or paper and pen?
DG~ Oh, goodness. A computer hands down. :)

JJBC~What is the hardest / easiest part of writing for you?
DG~The easiest part is the beginning and ending of the book. Those always go the quickest for me. Its the middle that I trudge through every time.

JJBC~What’s the best thing about being an author?
DG~There are several things. I love finishing a book, to see the story come alive every day, and then to feel that contentment that the book is done. It doesn't matter how many books I complete, I always feel that way. Contracts, of course, are one of the best things, but its really connecting with readers. There's nothing more special than getting emails from readers who say how much they enjoyed a book or if a particular character touched them somehow. That's really special to me.

JJBC~How long did you write before you became a published author?
DG~Six years


MUTUAL DESIRE

JJBC~Can you tell you tell us a little bit about Mutual Desire? DG~MUTUAL DESIRE is a single author anthology. There are three different novellas in the book. You'll get a taste of the Highlands, then go to a fantasy world, then take a trek through the Amazon.

~How did you come up with the idea for Mutual Desire? From a dream, from watching tv, while reading another book?
DG~One of the novellas was already chosen by my editor and he wanted more. So, when I began writing the others, I wanted them connected somehow, and with the first having a jewel given to the heroine by the hero, I decided to link them that way. Each story has a jewel in it, and a special reason why the hero gives it to the heroine.

JJBC~Who’s your favorite character and why?
DG~It would have to be Falcor from the novella, ENTRHALLED. He was so much fun to write, and part of me wished I would have done a full book on him instead of just a novella.
JJBC~Did the overall book turn out like your original idea of the story?
DG~ I don't plot out a book before I write it, so I'm always surprised in how a book ends. There are always plot twists and turns that shock me in every book.

JJBC~Can you tell us a little bit about when and where the story takes place?
DG~Sure! The first novella takes place in the Highlands. It was my editors favorite story, and one I thoroughly enjoyed writing. Of course, I have a soft spot for Highlanders. The second novella takes place on a fantasy world in a dangerous jungle filled with deadly animals and even deadlier enemies. The third novella is set in the Amazon jungle. Which took a lot of research. :)

JJBC~Do you have a favorite scene?
DG~I think my favorite scene from the entire collection is from, SPELLBOUND, the first novella where the hero, Ewan, discovers he's been duped into marrying the wrong woman. For a man who wants his life ordered and just how he wants it, he's in for more turmoil than he can imagine. But its just what he needs.
JJBC~ I have to say that is my FAVORITE story!!!! I took can never seem to get enough of the Highlands

DG~Oh, trap me Karen Marie Moning's Highlanders any day and I'll be a happy girl. :)

JJBC~Do you read any reviews on your books?

LI~ I usually only read them if someone points me to them. I definitely don’t seek them out. Cuz they can be skeeery…. (Am wuss)


JJBC~Do you read your own books after they make it to final print?
LI~No way! *g* I’m terrified I’ll find a mistake! I do keep an ARC (Advance Reader Copy) to look through for reference if I need to, because the ARCs are filled with errors – so if I find errors, I can choose to believe that they were corrected before making it to final print! ßThings Writers Do For Mental Health

JJBC~What do you like to Read? Your Favorite Genre?
LI~Love, love, love to read!!!! Favorite genre? Oooh, that’s tough, because I read pretty much everything. But I’d say my favorites are fantasy, historical fiction, and romance.

JJBC~Do you have a favorite book /series?
LI~My favorite all-time series is Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time. Love it! Favorite book? I have too many favorites to list! LOL

JJBC~Did you always want to be a writer?
LI~Yep. I learned to read when I was really young, and for as long as I can remember, I chose to read over doing pretty much everything else. I was in love with the written word, so I started writing my own stories.

JJBC~How old were you when you began to write?
LI~I started writing little kid stories when I was around 7. Gradually, the stories got longer, until I wrote my first full-length novel at the age of 13.

JJBC~Is writing your full time job?
LI~Thankfully, yes. I’m very, very lucky that my husband has a job that allows me to stay home and just write. For years I worked shiftwork at weather stations all over the country, but the meteorology field is very specialized, so with our frequent moves (hubby is in the Coast Guard) it was often hard to find a job. I concentrated on writing about 6 years ago when we moved to a place where the nearest weather station was 3 hours away and I couldn’t work. Now I’m published, and it’s wonderful, because my job now moves with my husband.

JJBC~Do you set a daily writing goal?
LI~I try to write a thousand words a day. Sometimes I get more, but mostly I get less!

JJBC~When and where do you like to write?
LI~ I write on the couch in the living room, but that’s because our basement isn’t finished yet. Once it is, I’ll have an office, and I plan to work there.

JJBC~Are there any processes you use when writing?Do you keep journals, sticky notes, chicken scratch on the back of receipts?
LI~I’m the most unorganized person on the planet. My notes are definitely all over the place, and there is no rhyme or reason to my method.

JJBC~Do you prefer to write on a computer, typewriter, or paper and pen?
LI~Computer – about 99% of the time.

JJBC~What is the hardest / easiest part of writing for you?
LI~Easiest? Heh. Okay, the easiest part of writing is probably coming up with character names. I love doing that! Hardest? Plotting. I hate plotting. Someone should have told me that plotting sucks…you know, long before I started writing!

JJBC~What’s the best thing about being an author?
LI~Seeing my name on a book in a bookstore. It’s been a dream of mine since I was very young, and I still freak out with excitement every time I walk into a bookstore and see my books.

JJBC~Who’s your favorite hero/heroine?
LI~Ooh, tough one. Since I write under two names, I’ll pick from both – you know, just to be fair! *g* Okay, for my Sydney Croft books (written with Stephanie Tyler,) I’d have to say that my favorite heroine is Kira from Unleashing The Storm. She’s an animal psychic and just this great mix of strong and sweet. My favorite hero is from the same book – Ender, AKA Tom Knight. He’s such a bastard! But he falls hard for Kira, and he’s super protective, funny, and tough as nails.

As for my own books, I’d say that Wraith from Passion Unleashed is my favorite, though it really is a close call with Eidolon. But Wraith is just so easy to write, such a smartass, so he wins by a hair. Favorite heroine? She’s one you haven’t met yet. Her name is Sin, and she’s basically a female Wraith. :)
JJBC~ I have to agree with you, Wraith is soooooo my fav! Nummmm

JJBC~What are you reading at the moment?
LI~ Deadly Desire, by Keri Arthur. Love Riley Jensen!

JJBC~Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
LI~Don’t give up! I nearly gave up after Hurricane Katrina, but thankfully I had awesome friends who forced me back up on that horse. Because of them, I’m published. If not for them…well, just keep writing, and don’t give up!

JJBC~Is there anything else you would like to share with your followers today?
LI~ Just a huge, huge thank you. Writing my Demonica series has been a dream come true, and without the support of my readers, I wouldn’t be where I am. You all rock!!!

JJBC~Can you tell you tell us a little bit about the book?
LI~I’ll cheat and post the back cover blurb:

Torn between duty and desire, Lore and Idess must join forces as they battle their attraction for each other. Because an enemy from the past is rising again—hellbent on vengeance and unthinkable destruction.

JJBC~How did you come up with the idea for this book/series? From a dream, from watching tv, while reading another book?
LI~ Well, for this book, it really just fell into place as the series progressed. The series itself came from an episode of Angel, where the hero, Angel – a vampire – was injured. One of the characters, Oz, said he needed to go to the hospital, but, well…vampire. So I started thinking…hmm…there really needs to be a hospital for those underworld creatures who need help. And Underworld General, with its demon, vampire, and werewolf doctors and nurses, was born!

JJBC~Did you have to do any type of research before writing this book?
LI~Not really. I’ve always been a huge fan of the paranormal, so I had a good base. I’ve studied religion and the paranormal on my own for years. And as far as the medical aspect….that was another area of interest. I always wanted to be a doctor, but I do have this aversion to blood and needles. However, I made myself get over that, and I got certified as an EMT so I could write those medical heroes and heroines I love so much.

JJBC~Who’s your favorite character and why?
LI~ Hmm…well, for this particular book, I really love Lore. I do tend to be hero-centric, so I almost always love the heroes more than the heroines. That doesn’t mean that I give those poor females the shaft – I do love them. But I find it much easier, and much more fun to write the males. Usually. As I mentioned above, I adore Sin, who is introduced in this book.

JJBC~Are any of your characters based on people in your life?
LI~Not at all. Though my husband likes to think that I based Wraith on him. *rolls eyes*

JJBC~Did the overall book turn out like your original idea of the story?
LI~Er…no. I actually rewrote the entire book after the first draft. And when I say rewrite, I mean, I only kept about 5% of the original. It just never came together for me, so I had to rewrite it, and I’m much happier with the second version.

JJBC~Can you tell us a little bit about the characters?
LI~Well, Lore is half demon and half human. His demon half (he’s a rare breed of incubi) has caused him a lifetime of misery, and his loyalty to his sister (Sin, who I’ve mentioned already) got him into trouble a few decades ago, and now he’s an assassin as a result. And his most recent job (his last job, if things go well) puts him in direct conflict with his newfound brothers – and with an angel whose job is to protect the person Lore is supposed to kill.

The angel, Idess, needs to make sure Lore doesn’t complete his assignment. See, she’s not quite an angel yet – she needs to earn her wings. And if he fails, well, bad news. Deep down, she’s sweet, but she’s got a tough exterior, and a past that she needs to make up for.

JJBC~Can you tell us a little bit about when and where the story takes place?
LI~The “when” is present day, just weeks after Passion Unleashed in the Demonica timeline. Where is a mix of places – Underworld General Hospital, North Carolina, South America, New York, and, well, hell.

JJBC~Do you have any idea how many book are going to be in this series?
LI~ Right now it’s looking like five total (Ecstasy Unveiled is book 4) with a spinoff series to come in 2011.

JJBC~Do you have a favorite scene?
LI~The Smurfette scene. (You’ll know it when you get to it!)

JJBC~Was there any part of this book that was harder for you to write than the others?
LI~Can I just say, “All of it?” No? Okay, let’s see…there’s a scene where Shade is a real jerk to Eidolon (they’re brothers) in the hospital. See, these brothers, Eidolon, Shade, and Wraith, fight a lot. But they are also VERY close. And when Lore shows up (a half-brother) he throws them all out of whack. Toss in another complication in the form of a long-lost enemy, and their relationship is turned on its head.

Well, in this one scene, Eidolon and Shade have a falling out that was really hard to write, was very emotional for me because these brothers love each other so much. So for them to break like they did, well, it was just awfully emotional for me to write. Very hard.

My Bonus Question:

JJBC~If you could be trapped in any series/book which would it be and why?
LI~Well, if we’re talking romance…I think I’d have to go with Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter series. Those hunky Dark Hunters? Um…yeah. Gimme!

JJBC~Do you read any reviews of your books?
SV~I read all of the reviews about my book, whether they’re positive or negative.   The positive ones I read more than once.  :D

JJBC~Do you read your own books after they make it to final print?

SV~I don’t read them all the way through.  I know the story too well and it would just be weird.

JJBC~What do you like to Read? Your Favorite Genre?

SV~I think my favourite genres at the moment are science fiction and fantasy.  It changes from month to month and year to year.  I also like horror, thriller, crime, and others.

JJBC~Do you have a favorite book /series?

SV~At the moment, I’m re-reading the Robert Jordan Wheel of Time series because I’m hoping to get the latest book for Christmas.  Favourites also change quite often.

JJBC~ How did you get into writing?

SV~I’ve been writing since I was about five years old.  I’m not sure how it started, I just always loved stories and liked to make up my own.

JJBC~Did you always want to be a writer?

SV~I’ve wanted to be a writer for as long as I can remember.

JJBC~How old were you when you began to write?

SV~Five. 

JJBC~Is writing your full time job?

SV~Right now, marketing my book is my full-time job.  It’s been taking away from my writing time and I’m trying now to make a better schedule to include a solid chunk of writing into each day.

JJBC~What is a typical writing day for you like?
SV~When I’m writing it takes over pretty much everything.  Every moment I’m at the computer I’m throwing words down, and when I’m out visiting or doing “normal” things, I bring a notebook and keep writing in that. 

JJBC~Do you set a daily writing goal?

SV~I should – it would make me more productive – but I don’t.

JJBC~When and where do you like to write?

SV~I write everywhere and anywhere.

JJBC~Are there any processes you use when writing? Do you keep journals, sticky notes, chicken scratch on the back of receipts?

SV~All of the above.  I’m a sticky note junkie and a notebook junkie, but any piece of paper will do in a pinch.

JJBC~Do you prefer to write on a computer, typewriter, or paper and pen?

SV~I prefer to write on the computer.  When I use paper and pen, I just have to retype it all in anyway.

JJBC~What is the hardest / easiest part of writing for you?

SV~The hardest part is starting.  Once the story starts flowing, it’s easy.  It’s just getting it going in the first place that’s a bit intimidating for me.

JJBC~What's the best thing about being an author?
SV~The best thing is doing something that I love and having other people actually like it.  It’s a weird feeling for me whenever someone mentions my book to me.  I love it, but it’s weird to have other people knowing about what I’ve written.

JJBC~How long did you write before you became a published author?

SV~About 29 years.  (Okay, now I feel old!)

JJBC~Who is your favorite hero/heroine?
SV~At the moment, Rand al’Thor from the Wheel of Time series.

JJBC~What are you reading at the moment?

SV~At the moment I’m reading The Great Hunt by Robert Jordan.

JJBC~Is there a questions you have always wanted to be asked in an interview? If so how would you answer it?

SV~I can’t think of anything at the moment.

JJBC~Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?

SV~Write as often as you can and practice reviewing and rewriting.

JJBC~Is there anything else you would like to share with your followers today?

SV~I’m expecting a baby at the end of May!  Writing the second book in the Thunder and Blood series has been really difficult while pregnant – sometimes I think the baby has eaten my creativity.

 THUNDER AND BLOOD

JJBC~~Can you tell you tell us a little bit about the book?

SV~It’s about two women who go on a weekend getaway and drive through a mysterious fog that brings them into a parallel universe.  In the new world, vampires are real, blood is currency, and danger for the two women abounds.

JJBC~How did you come up with the idea for this book/series? From a dream, from watching tv, while reading another book?

SV~I first came up with the idea when I was about 16 or 17.  I was driving through the countryside at night, probably thinking about boys, when I hit an incredibly thick patch of fog.  It was exactly as I describe it in my book – so thick that I couldn’t see in front of the car, couldn’t see either side of the road, and the fog swept up over the windshield like sheets of silk.  It was a terrifying experience at the time, but when I got  home I couldn’t stop thinking about how it would be a great idea for a book.  Of course, I didn’t actually write it for more than a decade, but that should tell you what a strong experience it was.

JJBC~Did you have to do any type of research before writing this book?

SV~I did research into the fifteenth and sixteenth century and the amazing people who lived during that time in Europe.  Since the vampires took over the world during that time period, I wanted to make it as accurate as I could.  Luckily, I was living in Europe at the time, so that helped with my research. 

JJBC~Who is your favorite character and why?
SV~I think my favourite character in my book is Hillard.  He’s mysterious, strong, and handsome.  

JJBC~Are any of your characters based on people in your life?

SV~Sarah is based on a version of me when I was about 24 and my first marriage had just broken up (but not for the same reasons as Sarah’s).  I hope to see her start to evolve in the second book to be a stronger person, more confident in herself and sure of her own decisions. 
Adelaide is based physically on one of my best friends.  I wanted to create a spunky, strong redhead and she’s a fantastic model.

JJBC~Did the overall book turn out like your original idea of the story?

SV~Not really.  It took on a life of its own around the fourth or fifth chapter.  By the end, I had no idea how it was going to turn out.  I love it when stories surprise me like that!

JJBC~Can you tell us a little bit about the characters?

SV~Sarah and Christine are sisters who have a really strong bond because of the rough childhood that they weathered together.  Sarah is more insecure than her sister, but both can be tough under pressure.
Hillard is a mysterious man that Sarah meets right after being separated from her sister.  He takes care of Sarah, but has a secret that shocks, and initially horrifies, her.
Radek is an insane vampire that rules the village of Donner.  He drinks from his subjects indiscriminately, wanting only to increase his own power.
Adelaide is a strong loner who holds a serious grudge against Radek.  She and Hillard have a bond of some sort.

JJBC~Can you tell us a little bit about when and where the story takes place?

SV~The story takes place in and around the area of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada.  Lake Superior (and the Sleeping Giant) make a fantastic setting.  When the girls pass through the fog, they end up in a world where Thunder Bay has been renamed Donner (Thunder in German) and where technology hasn’t developed much past that of the Renaissance period.

JJBC~Do you have any idea how many book are going to be in this series?

SV~Right now I have at least four books planned for the series.  We’ll see after that if more develop. 

JJBC~Do you have a favorite scene?

SV~Not really.

SV~Hmmmm.  I think I’d like to be in the Harry Potter series.  I think having magic would be cool!  Other than that, I read a lot of darker fiction and I don’t think I’d want to be trapped in any of them.  :P

On the 3rd Day of Blogmas We Have Gena Showalter

On the 3rd Day Of Blogmas we have Gena Showalter !!!!WOO HOO....YAY!!!!  Gena herself Could not be here today due to her deadlines, and i sooooo do not want to get in the way of her awesome writing!!! I'm a HUGE fan and need more lords !!! But Gena has sent me a book (not sure which one yet, it hasn't arrived) to give away to  one lucky fan !!! *quirks brow* if i don't sneak this one on my bookshelf first !!! On the 2nd Day of Blogmas we have Michele Hauf *clap, clap, clap* YAY !!! I’m so glad you could join us today Michele. This really is a great Interview, and we all thank you for taking the time to share with us !!!


JJBC~Do you read any reviews on your books?
MH~Yes. No. Yes. I’m trying to stop. But the good ones do make you feel good, and the bad ones, well... Yes. No. :-)

JJBC~Do you read your own books after they make it to final print?
MH~Sometimes. I write what I love to read, so my fav reads are always books I’ve written. I’ve actually been eager to dig out my old Bombshells and reread those. It’s been a while, and I loved the heroines in those books.

JJBC~What do you like to Read? Your Favorite Genre?
MH~Paranormal and historical romance, with some urban fantasy tossed in. And Young Adult. And a lot of non-fiction set during the time periods I like to write in.

JJBC~Do you have a favorite book /series?
MH~I’m loving Kresley Cole’s Immortals series! Is this about my stuff? If so, I am in love with the book I’m working on right now, but it doesn’t have a title. ;-)

JJBC~ How did you get into writing?
MH~Wanted to see if I could write down one of the stories I frequently kept in my brain. Always telling myself long, elaborate stories/daydreams.

JJBC~Did you always want to be a writer?
MH~Nope, though I’ve always like the idea of telling a story, even if it was only to myself.

JJBC~How old were you when you began to write?
MH~It was right after my son was born, and I needed to fill the time while on maternity leave.

JJBC~Is writing your full time job?
MH~Yes, I’m very fortunate.

JJBC~What’s a typical writing day for you like?
MH~It varies, but I get up, do the blog crawl and answer emails, then write until around noon. Lunch, then write a bit. Always meet Dr. Oz at 2:00. He talks while I walk on the glider (gotta get my exercise in!), then back to a bit more writing.

JJBC~Do you set a daily writing goal?
MH~Nope. Goals can be dangerous. I know how I work, and some days I put out a tremendous amount of words, other days, not so much. It all works out one way or another.

JJBC~When and where do you like to write?
MH~Mornings are best. Fresh mind, fresh ideas. Though morning doesn’t start until 9:00 am, right? Always seated before my desk, though I’ve been thinking about getting a laptop and trying that. I wonder if I’d be too distracted sitting somewhere away from my desk that I’d never get a thing done?

JJBC~Are there any processes you use when writing? Do you keep journals, sticky notes, chicken scratch on the back of receipts?
MH~I do keep notes. Actually after my first draft, I outline each chapter to come up with a sort of map of what I have. Then, I always have notes I’ve scribbled while driving. The best ideas come to me while driving!

JJBC~Do you prefer to write on a computer, typewriter, or paper and pen?
MH~Computer. I can’t read my own writing. I caution myself every time I do written edits on the page to write neatly. It never works. There are many edits I just give up trying to figure out because my chicken scratches make no sense whatsoever.

JJBC~What is the hardest / easiest part of writing for you?
MH~The hardest part is trying to stay fresh and not repeating myself from story to story. The easiest is the excitement for new characters and story ideas that translates to the page.

JJBC~What’s the best thing about being an author?
MH~Besides working in pajamas, I get a small thrill out of seeing my book in a Target store. :-)

JJBC~How long did you write before you became a published author?
MH~I sent my first book off to Zebra. It sold six months later. (But that doesn’t mean I haven’t received many rejections since then.)

JJBC~Who’s your favorite hero/heroine?
MH~I love Blu and Creed from the upcoming HER VAMPIRE HUSBAND. She’s a sassy werewolf princess with a penchant for multi-colored wigs and saying exactly what she thinks. He’s an arrogant, ancient vampire lord who can resist the werewolf’s charms. Those two, I love ‘em!

JJBC~What are you reading at the moment?
MH~Charlotte Featherstone’s ADDICTED, which is AWESOME. And I’m reading PLEASURE AND PRIVILEGE, which is all about Paris in 18th century.

JJBC~Is there a questions you have always wanted to be asked in an interview? If so how would you answer it?
MH~Who’s your favorite villain? The castrato from MY LADY MADNESS, who had a psychic connection to the heroine (they were twins) and tried to kill her throughout the story.

JJBC~Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
MH~Just write. Every day. Write. Then, write some more.

HER VAMPIRE HUSBAND      

JJBC~Can you tell you tell us a little bit about Her Vampire Husband?
MH~HER VAMPIRE HUSBAND is actually the third book in the Wicked Games series, but it is very much a stand-alone book. I wanted to try the ‘arranged marriage’ plot and what better conflict than to pair natural enemies such as a vampire and a werewolf? And the hero is about 900 years older than the heroine, so the generation gap is huge. I had great fun with this book, and I think it shows in the relationship between the hero and heroine. The story takes place as the werewolf and vampire nations attempt to stop the warring between them, and hope that by orchestrating a marriage between the two that will show them all that they can learn to love and respect one another. Of course, both sides have ulterior motives. ;-)





JJBC~How did you come up with the idea for this series? From a dream, from watching tv, while reading another book?
MH~Like I said, I wanted to try the arranged marriage plot, and once I knew who the hero and heroine were, the story sort of told itself. The book also features cameo appearances from characters in previous books, such as: Ivan and Dez Drake (The Devil To Pay), Nikolaus and Ravin Drake (Kiss Me Deadly), Severo (Moon Kissed), and of course Himself.

JJBC~Did you have to do any type of research before writing this book?
MH~I always include research in my books, though my vampire world is pretty well established by now, so I don’t have to add much to that. The hero is a vampire who possesses witch magic, so I had to expand on that. And then the most research was in wolf packs and incorporating that into the werewolf lifestyle.

JJBC~Who’s your favorite character and why?
MH~The heroine, Blu Masterson, is fun, funky, sassy, and I’d love to go out and party with her sometime. She’s very confident, and that small part of her that is frightened she hides well (and under bright colored wigs). She isn’t afraid to stand before a vampire and give him what for, and neither is she afraid to eat Count Chocula cereal in front of her vampire hubby. ;-)

JJBC~Are any of your characters based on people in your life?
MH~Nope.

JJBC~Did the overall book turn out like your original idea of the story?
MH~Yep.

JJBC~Can you tell us a little bit about when and where the story takes place?
MH~Takes place right now in Minneapolis. Actually, that’s not quite right. The timeline of the Wicked Games series takes place 25 years from the end of His Forgotten Forever. In The Devil To Pay I moved it all up 25 years because the hero is the son of a couple from Kiss Me Deadly. (Is that confusing enough for you?) So it’s in the future, but I didn’t want them to be futuristic, or to have readers wondering what technology should be used, so I write it in the now, but it’s...not. (Again. Confusing. But that’s how it works.)

JJBC~Do you have any idea how many book are going to be in this series?
MH~HER VAMPIRE HUSBAND is the last in the Wicked Games series. But readers should know that all my paranormal series take place in the same ‘world’. So the series may feature different creatures like vamps and witches, weres and vamps, even angels and demons, but it’s all happening in the same world.

JJBC~Doy uo have anything new in the works you wouls like to share with your fans today?
MH~My next series for Nocturne is OF ANGELS AND DEMONS. The first book, ANGEL SLAYER will be out June 2010.

Set in 17th century Paris, it would be the perfect time and place for me to be trapped. And not a vamp or werewolf in sight, so all I’d have to fear is lack of toilet paper! ;-)

JJBC~Do you read your own books after they make it to final print?

LRJ~No- by the time I've gone through all the many parts of the publishing process, I've read them so many times, I feel like I can't read them again. And then-- if I do -- I'm terrified I will find something we missed or something I hate, which will only make me fret. And I am good at fretting!


JJBC~What do you like to Read? Your Favorite Genre?

LRJ~I love all genres. I think historical is my best escape because I don't write it so I don't think about craft. I just escape and enjoy. But I love contemporary and paranormal reads! Lori Foster and Sherrilyn Kenyon are two favorites.


JJBC~Do you have a favorite book /series?

LRJ~Kenyon is probably my favorite. I just love how she makes me laugh outloud in the middle of such dark moments.


JJBC~Did you always want to be a writer?

LRJ~No but I did some independent films and some stage and I think it was the creativeness in me trying to find expression


JJBC~How old were you when you began to write?

LRJ~Late 30's-- I owned a business I was about to sell and it allowed me to get back in touch with my creative side


JJBC~Is writing your full time job?

LRJ~It is.


JJBC~What’s a typical writing day for you like?

LRJ~I get up at 10ish and drink coffee and watch a little news. Then I do the misc admin stuff life and writing demands. I typically start writing about 1pm and then break around 8pm to run and workout.


JJBC~~Do you set a daily writing goal?

LRJ~Yes. I do. Depends on the project but I keep a schedule that has deadlines on it and the daily count needed to get there.


JJBC~Where do you like to write?

LRJ~It changes, I go through stages where I love a bookstore and times when I need to be in my office at home. Even times when my fluffy chair works and times when my desk works.


JJBC~Are there any processes you use when writing? Do you keep journals, sticky notes, chicken scratch on the back of receipts?

LRJ~I keep sticky notes taped to my desk with eye color and hair and stuff like that. But for an ongoing series I keep a word file with a details glossary.


JJBC~Do you prefer to write on a computer, typewriter, or paper and pen?

LRJ~I have a notebook computer that goes everywhere with me -- even to bed for a while before I sleep.


JJBC~What are you reading at the moment?

LRJ~I just got a Rachel Gibson novel on Audio. Can't wait to start it at the gym tonight!


JJBC~Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?

LRJ~Just keep going. Keep reading. Keep writing. Stay open to advice and growth. Don't give up. I've had a lot of blows. I am not an overnight success. It's tough but if you want it, keep writing.

SANTA BABY

JJBC~Can you tell you tell us a little bit about Santa Baby?

LRJ~Santa Baby is my December release and its book 4 in the Dressed to Thrill Blaze mini-series. It's a fun story with a heroine finds her sexy side when she ends up, through a mishap, in a Marilyn Monroe costume.



JJBC~How did you come up with the idea for this series? From a dream, from watching tv, while reading another book?

LRJ~This is a mini-series I was invited to join and was honored and thrilled to be a part of. The authors are very talented. The premise was already set so I had fun coming up with my costume mishap.

JJBC~Did you have to do any type of research before writing this book?

LRJ~The heroine is a lot like me -- funny stuff happens to her. I really think she is more like me than any character I've written. No research needed!



JJBC~Who’s your favorite character and why?

LRJ~I'd say this one simply because I related to her.


JJBC~Are any of your characters based on people in your life?

LRJ~Just this one!
