Day #26 Birthday Bash with Author Rebecca Rose

Jun 12, 2010

Welcome to Day #26 of JoJos 30 Day Birthday Bash. Today we have Author Rebecca Rose here joining us, and letting us get a little peak into her life! So help me give a warm welcome to Rebecca!!

Rebecca Rose

~How do you think romance has changed in the last 30 years? Oh gosh, it has changed so much! You can use your imagination more and don’t have to worry about being censored. The ‘Romance’ genre has branched out into so many different areas, too. You have sweet, sophisticated, erotic, erotic romance, contemporary, ect and sometimes it’s so hard finding where you belong.

~What type of romance do you prefer to read? Now that I’ve become a reviewer I find myself liking all types. I used to think that answer was a little lame but now I understand it. Although, I have to say erotic romance certainly has sparked my interest.

~What are your favorite types of Heros & / or heroines? I need strong characters. Wimpy people in real life bother the heck out of me so you can imagine how I’d throw the book down in disgust with a character like that. But in all fairness, I like the characters that start off wimpy and then grow into a confident alpha.

~Can you tell us a little about yourself? LOL My least favorite subject! Uumm, I’m slightly dyslexic so that makes for some interesting edits. I’m convinced that when I’m old and gray I’ll be the strange cat lady. I have three great kids who love to play pranks on everyone in the house and my husband of 16 years is the worst one of them all!

~Fav color RED there is just something naughty about it!

~Fav movies The Princess Bride This movie got me into romance at a very young age. I have a copy that I watch with my children. The X-Men, oh there is something about Hugh Jackman! YUM

~Can you tell us about your favorite / strangest fan experience? My favorite experience is when I was talking at my day job to a client. I was telling a story when another woman piped in. She said she read that exact story somewhere. When I told her the magazine I was working for published it, she got excited to find out who I was and said how she read my articles every month! It was definitely a WOW moment. The strangest is when a man found out what I do and asked if my husband and I were interested in swapping partners. I told him I was flattered but no, we don’t do that.

~Do you read any reviews on your books? I do read the reviews because if it is a good one then I’m ecstatic; if not then it’s something I can learn from.

~Do you read your own books after they make it to final print? NO. I’m so sick of them after going through the editing process that I just can’t. Maybe I’ll feel different once there are a few years in between. But for now, no.

~Do you have a favorite book /series? Ohhh! Nora Roberts the Chesapeake Bay series. These books totally got me into writing.

~Did you always want to be a writer? No, I wanted to be a paralegal. I love research so it seemed like a good match for me.

~Is writing your full time job? Yes, but I’m also a part-time hairdresser

~What is a typical writing day for you like? I start about 8 am until I go to my job in the afternoon. In between clients I work; just like I am right now. Then, sometimes I write after ‘work’.

~Do you set a daily writing goal? No, why set a goal that you’re going to break almost right away?

~Are there any processes you use when writing? Do you keep journals, sticky notes, chicken scratch on the back of receipts? I write ALL OVER EVERTHING! It’s terrible. My kids bring back field trip forms with writing on them and I have notes taped and tacked all over.

~Do you prefer to write on a computer, typewriter, or paper and pen? I need to use my laptop. I’m in love with autocorrect/spell check and I would marry the man who invented it if I wasn’t already married to my soul mate!

~What is the hardest / easiest part of writing for you? The hardest part is sitting down and just doing to. The easiest part is the writing. I’m a panster so I write as if I’m reading.

~Whats the best thing about being an author? My kids think I’m cool!!

~How long did you write before you became a published author? 4 years. I know it usually takes people longer than this but for me all the stars aligned and POOF I was published.

~Whos your favorite hero/heroine? Okay this is so out of the blue but I have to say Wolverine from the X-Men. In the comics he killed everyone, good or bad. But it’s the alpha man with the hard shell and soft heart that get me.

~What are you reading at the moment? I just finished A Lady Never Tells by Candace Camp. It was a wonderful historic that I wrote a review on my blog about. But now I have to pick what I’m going for next. Probably an erotic, I have quite a few of them.

~Is there a questions you have always wanted to be asked in an interview? If so how would you answer it? Do you ever get so overwhelmed that you want to quit? Yes… but only for a very brief moment. I’m living a dream and it’s so much more than I ever thought I’d have. How could I possibly complain? LOL Yet, sometimes I still do!

~Do you have any advice for aspiring writers? Be prepared to work your ass off! There is no downtime unless you’re on a death bed. No one warned me and I found for the 1st year I disappeared into writing and editing hell until I established a routine.

~Is there anything else you would like to share with your followers today? Thank you for your support and encouragement.

~How many books / series have you written? I have the Divine Series which is three books and follows the Allen family. It’s a lot of fun and very sexy!

~Can you tell us about some of them?

Divine Turmoil follows Serena O’Neal and Brian Allen. A family illness draws Serena home to face issues she's avoided for years: an absent father, an ornery sister, and steamy neighbor Brian Allen. With one broken marriage behind him, Brian can't believe he's falling for Serena. She's a risk on heels -- spirited but vulnerable, and utterly irresistible. He'd be crazy to give her a second glance. She'll break his heart. Or his bed. Probably both...

Divine Redemption is the second in the series. It follows Brian’s sister Jacqueline and her love interest Donald. In his first ever selfless act Donald Write takes a bullet for a man he just met, Daniel Allen. Now he's changed his name and moved across the country to live with Daniel’s family whose welcoming home reception wasn't very warm.

Jacqueline is Daniel’s daughter. This soft spoken, well dressed lady soon teaches Donald that looks can be deceiving and her heart can be his if he’s willing to open up and except her gift of love.

Donald hadn't counted on the intense and immediate attraction to Jacqueline. She’s the boss’s daughter and off limits; that is until he finds himself with an irresistible primal need to be with her. She shows him love in a way he's never felt before and gives him the strength to become the better man he's always wanted to be. But how can Donald touch and care for someone so pure of heart when their future can be destroyed by his past? A future built on redemption and second chances.

~Is there a Genre you have always wanted to write in but for reasons you have not been able to? Intense emotional thrillers. I can’t read them because they give me anxiety attacks and that’s why I think they’d be fun to write. But can you imagine? I’d be crazy in a week!

~Do you have a new release, or a new release coming out soon? Can you tell us about it? Divine Turmoil will be in print August 1st. (It’s already in Ebook form) Divine Redemption will be in Ebook form September 20th.

~How do you come up with character names? Books, magazines and I always read name tags. If the name is really interesting I’ll ask them about it. LOL Sometimes I get some strange looks. J

~How did you come up with the idea for this book/series? From a dream, from watching tv, while reading another book? I was driving in the car thinking about how much I’d love to start writing the book that had been developing in my head since the death of my Grandmother. I looked to the rearview mirror and saw the autumn leaves bellowing in my vehicles wake. Thus, the beginning of Divine Turmoil was born. Aren’t we always moving toward or away from something/someone? Isn’t self discovery discovered through these very means?

Laughter is pivotal in our everyday lives, especially when pure chaos is surrounding us. I wanted to show how even in the darkest times positive is still around us. It is breathing fresh life into our sometimes tired minds so that we will be able to move on. Brian and Serena in Divine Turmoil are images of this. Their love and humor are beautiful examples of the human spirit.

~Whos your favorite character and why? Serena. She’s just such a fun character!

~Can you tell us a little bit about when and where the story takes place? A very small town in Massachusetts called Granby.

~Do you have a favorite scene? The cabana scene where Brian and Serena yank each others clothes off. Reminds me of the lust you have when you first meet a new lover.

~Do you have a website or blog that your readers can keep up with you and your books? Yup, you can find me at

I have not read any of Rebecca's books. Divine Valor looks interesting, though. What appeals to be is that the main character is approaching 40. Does he find what he thinks he's missing.....

Thanks,

I haven't yet, but I just checked her page and the one that caught my interest the most is "Divine Valor" {the third book in the Divine series}. It's not out yet but man, it sounds good. As do the others, but that one more so... okay I'm hushing it up now. :)

Hi everyone and thanks for stopping by!
Carol, The Divine Series is three books. Next year I'll have a standalone out called, 'Noble Deception'. It's about what happens when you're engaged to one man and then find your soul mate. I'm really excited about it! :)
