Day #28 Birthday Bash with Author Larissa Ione

Jun 14, 2010

Welcome to Day #28 of JoJos 30 Day Birthday Bash!. Today we have one of my Favorite Authors Larissa Ione! So help me give a warm Welcome to Larissa and her HAWT Demons!

Larissa Ione

~How do you think romance has changed in the last 30 years? It's definitely gotten sexier and edgier. I love that!

~What type of romance do you prefer to read? I love paranormal, historical, and military romance

~What are your favorite types of Heros & / or heroines? Gimme an alpha male every time, and heroine who can stand up to him.

~Can you tell us a little about yourself? I'm a full time author, but in my past life, I was a meteorologist, EMT, professional dog trainer, and an Air Force veteran. I'm now lucky enough to write full time, since I'm married to a Coast Guard husband, and we move a lot. I have the best job in the world!

~Fav color Blue

~Fav Scent Vanilla

~Fav Flavor Amaretto

~Fav shampoo Aveda

~Fav movies Star Trek -- pretty much anything science fiction or paranormal

~Can you tell us about your favorite / strangest fan experience? You know, I don't really have a single one, but I have to say, I love, love, love when I talk to readers who have gotten the Demonica caduceus tattoo. It blows me away every time.

~Do you read any reviews on your books? If I'm not pointed directly to them, no. Bad reviews can really screw with my head, so I try to avoid them.

~Do you read your own books after they make it to final print? No, but I do keep an ARC of each book to flip through to find things I might need -- references, history, etc.

~What do you like to Read? Your Favorite Genre? Romance, Fantasy (Robert Jordan is a favorite,) and historical fiction

~Do you have a favorite book /series? Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. Love it!

~Did you always want to be a writer? Oh, yes. I was writing stories when I was very young. I used to go to my town's used book store and spend hours there. It was the best part of my childhood, and I used to dream of seeing my book on the shelves.

~How old were you when you began to write? I was around seven when I started writing stories. Mostly about animals.

~Is writing your full time job? Fortunately, yes, but it took a long time to get to this point, and it's only because my husband's job is a guaranteed steady income.

~Whats a typical writing day for you like? I get up with my son at 6:30, get him sent off to school, and then I sit down to write about about 8:00 AM. I usually goof off for an hour or so, catching up on email or updating my blog/facebook page/twitter, etc. Once I get going, I write until around 3:30, when my son comes home. If I'm not on deadline, I'll stop for the day. If on deadline, I write until I go to bed at around 10:00.

~Do you set a daily writing goal? I try to get 1200 words a day when I'm not on deadline. If I am, I try to get closer to 2000

~When and where do you like to write? Living room couch, but that's only because I don't have an office yet. We're finishing our basement, and I'll have my own space then. I can't wait!

~Are there any processes you use when writing? Do you keep journals, sticky notes, chicken scratch on the back of receipts? I have no process. Seriously, I'm a mess! Every book has a different process, and I'm not organized at all! *hangs head in shame*

~Do you prefer to write on a computer, typewriter, or paper and pen? Computer -- Mac laptop!

~Whats the best thing about being an author? The readers!

~What are you reading at the moment? Gena Showalter's The Darkest Passion. It's so awesome!

~Do you have any advice for aspiring writers? Learn the rules. Live them. Breathe them. And then throw them out the window. I don't believe in rules, but I really think you need to know them so you know how to break them effectively.

~How man books / series have you written? Seventeen, which includes several novellas and two books that aren't yet out.

~Can you tell us about some of them? Well, I have written contemporary romance, erotic romance, and paranormal romance, so I've got a pretty broad range to choose from. I'll give you the link to my books page...that'll probably be a lot easier for your readers to wade through!

~Is there a Genre you have always wanted to write in but for reasons you have not been able to? Oh, yes! Many! I'd love to write horror. Historical fiction. Fantasy. But the one I REALLY want to write? I want to write a Star Trek novel. It's my dream. Someday I WILL. :)

~What are 3 things that are “must haves” for you when you sit down to write? Coffee, coffee, and coffee.

~Do you have a new release, or a new release coming out soon? Can you tell us about it? I do! Sin Undone will release on August 24th, and it's the fifth book in the Demonica series, about a succubus who is one of a kind, and a vampire-werewolf who is charged with making her pay for starting a plague that is killing his people. I had SO much fun writing it. For more info and an excerpt, here's the link: http://larissaione.com/blog/books/sin-undone/

~Do you have a webiste or blog that your readers can keep up with you and your books? Yep! Here's my blog home page: http://larissaione.com/blog/blog-home/

~Did you have to do any type of research before writing Sin Undone? Well, like the other books in the Demonica series, which are set in and around an underworld hospital, there was some medical research involved. Fortunately, I do have a medical background, and I also had a lot of help from actual medical doctors. Who rock.

~Can you tell us a little bit about when and where the story takes place? It takes place pretty much all over the place. New York, Montana, Canada, Russia...it's an international affair...

~Do you have any idea how many book are going to be in this series? Right now, it ends at book 5, but book 5 leads into a spinoff set in the same world. You'll see the Demonica characters often, and some of them play large roles, like Reaver, Kynan, and Arik.

Sin Undone

HER TOUCH IS DEADLY
As the only female Seminus demon ever born, master assassin Sinead Donnelly is used to being treated like an outcast. She spent decades enslaved, and now vows she’ll die before she’ll relinquish her freedom again. Then Sin’s innate ability to kill her enemies goes awry: She creates a lethal new werewolf virus that sparks a firestorm of panic and violence.
HIS HUNGER CAN’T BE DENIED
Half-werewolf, half-vampire Conall Dearghul is charged with bringing in Sin to face punishment for the plague. And she’s no stranger: He’s bound to her by blood, and the one sexual encounter they shared has left him hungering for her raw sensuality. Worse, Sin is the underworld’s most wanted and Con soon learns he’s the only one who can help her . . . and that saving her life might mean sacrificing his own.

I have not read any yet. I have been collecting them to read all at once. The only one I do not have yet is Sin Undone :)

So what tempts me... apparently everything, but the hotties on the covers don't hurt *winks*

Victoria June 14, 2010 at 11:29 AM

I've read all of Larissa's works. I love them all! Wraith is my guy but if I had to choose from the SEALs Creed would be my man. Can't wait for more!

vsloboda@gmail.com

Unknown June 14, 2010 at 11:37 AM

Of course I've read all her books! I love how there is a bit of everything in it with a wonderful mix of different paranormal creatures. Whenever I'm asked to recommend a series, this is at the top of my list. The ACRO series is another good one.

Victoria June 14, 2010 at 11:46 AM

I should have also said ACRO not SEALs as they are all from different branches of the military and I love them all!

Sweet Vernal Zephyr June 14, 2010 at 12:02 PM

I read Desire Unchained AND Taming the Fire. Both are HOT with sweet BDSM elements that really sucked me in.

Amy J June 14, 2010 at 12:16 PM

I haven't read her books yet, but I really want to! I own all except for the first one! That is the one I am looking forward to the most!

Raonaid Luckwell June 14, 2010 at 7:34 PM

Oh yes, I have read all of them. I am currently trying to get my one friend in Mass to read the books. I know she will simply love the books (she'll love the brothers' marked arms).

Hey! I had fun pimping her for the Dabwaha polls.

Jessica,  June 14, 2010 at 7:55 PM

I've read Pleasure Unbound, Desire Unchained and now i'm halfway through Passion Unleashed! I was originally drawn towards the cover of Ecstasy Unveiled on the shelf in the bookstore just because it was my favorite color, purple. Shallow, i know. I read the first few pages and absolutely loved your writing style! So, i hunted down the first book in the series. (I was back 2 days later to buy the next 3.)

I love the fact that its a romance novel that also offers deep backgrounds, plots and character developments. In addition, nothing ever seems forced. The entire series, from what i've read, flows from one page to the next.

I've recommended this series to many of my friends!

Keep up the wonderful work!!

Hi Larissa,

I've just started the Demonica series with Pleasure Unbound. I looking forward to reading the rest of the series! I would love any of the books, as I borrowed the first one from a friend!

Thanks!

I've read all the Demonica books and loved them. My favorite is Wraith, because he just has a wicked sense of humor! I am most drawn to him because he's not like the usual heroes that go through tragedies and magically come out all right. No, he's screwed up and he knows it. But he still goes on helping his brothers and living his life (and causing trouble lol). All of the stories though are really great, they pull you in and keep you reading. I recommend the series to everyone I know LOL Can't wait for Sin Undone!

Can't wait for sin undone. This series rock and I am looking forward to your new spinoff series. the Four Horsemen bring em on.

ParanormalBites June 14, 2010 at 10:11 PM

I love the Demonica series! So far I have read Desire Unchained, Passion Unleashed, and Ecstasy Unveiled. I just started reading Pleasure Unbound this afternoon and I am really looking forward to Sin Undone in August. I have to say that the Seminus brothers (and now sister too) are some of the sexiest demons that I have read, right up there with Kresley Cole's Woede brothers! I'm sad that the series is coming to an end though.

Emily June 14, 2010 at 10:55 PM

I read all of your Demonica books and love them all!

My favortie is Desire Unchained. Runa is so strong and filled with passion. Shade has so many hidden darkness but that is all brought to light by Runa's love!

Anonymous,  June 14, 2010 at 11:59 PM

I have read the four Demonica Series books....waiting for Sin Undone! I loved all the books for each one gave a new story into each brother and their journey to finding a mate. I like how the stories kept you in the loop with all the characters you come too love once you read the previous one. Wraith is my favorite as he is so cocky, humerous, sexy (thank you Larissa!) and a hot head and his character has such intriguing draw! Oh the vampire in him. Yummy.

These books lit a fire in me that has been SO fabulous! I love how I can escape to a world of Demons, Vampires, Werewolves and seduction all in one.

Thank you again Larissa and Happy Birthday JoJo!

Wenj June 15, 2010 at 3:45 AM

So far I've read the fist book in the series and am about to start on the second. I must say, that I really enjoyed the world she created and came to really love the characters. Such an inventive take on the subject of demons...and I was equally impressed to find myself feeling sorry for the demon world!

Can't wait to read more in this series!!

OMG, I was busy for a couple of days, come back, and so many comments! You guys are freaking awesome!!!!

Luvsdemons666, sorry it's taken so long to answer this!

"So, if I can ask a question, how long have you been writing? And what is your favorite genre to write?"

Okay, been writing since I could hold a pencil. Seriously. I finished my first novel at the age of 13...so basically, I've been writing for 30 years. Didn't sell a story until 2006, though!

My favorite genre to write is paranormal and horror. Love them both!!! :)

Anne June 17, 2010 at 2:21 PM

I've read them the first 4 in the Demonica series but no Sydney Croft yet.

I like the world she's built in the series and the characters who are original and not so cookie cutterish as some series' characters have become.
