Blog Bash Day 9 with Laurie Hunsaker

Aug 11, 2011

My favorite recipe for cake is for some weird reason called a
Tom Selleck Cake

No, it won't look like *that* once you're done ;)

But it will be full of sweet chocolatey carmely goodness-

The recipe is easy peasy and yumtastic!

Ingredients:
1 box of German Chocolate cake mix
1 tub of Cool Whip (I like the 12oz)
3 Heath Bars
pecans
1 jar of Smucker's caramel topping
1 can of sweetened condensed milk

-Bake the cake according to the directions on the box-but use either an oblong or rectangular cake pan
-Remove cake from oven, but leave it in the pan to cool
-Use a clean drinking straw, and make approx 80 holes in the cake by poking the straw into the cooled cake
-slowly pour the can of sweetened condensed milk over the cake. Use a spoon or spatula to spread it carefully.
-Slowly pour the whole jar of caramel topping and spread as well.
-Spread the Cool Whip on top.
-sprinkle chopped pecans on top of the Cool Whip
-Take the 3 Heath (or Skore) bars and while still in the wrappers, use a butter knife to break them up-crumble and sprinkle on top of the cake
-Refrigerate over night for best results

Okay, my 'W' is

What was the first romance novel you remember reading?

When I was 13 I went camping with the family and I hated it. We camped a lot, and I was so over the "fun" of camping. We were at Eagle Lake, NV and someone had set up a small bookshelf crammed full with worn paperbacks. Well, one of the park rangers must've been a romance fan, because there was a whole shelf dedicated to them. I read for 3 days straight. The first book I remember reading was called The Angel and the Prince by Laurel O'Donnell. It's kind of bodice-rippery, but it had a great heroine. So, now I want to know: What was your first?

The Angel and the Prince
by Laurel O'Donnell

In this exciting medieval romance, the French lady knight known as the Angel of Death wages a battle of wills and desires against her dreaded enemy — the English warrior known as the Prince of Darkness.

Ryen De Bouriez is a French warrior, dedicated to protecting her country against the hated English. In place of glittering ball gowns, she wears shining armor. Instead of practicing the gentler arts, she wields a sword. Those who whisper her name in fear and awe call her the Angel of Death.

Bryce Princeton is the Prince of Darkness, an English knight sent by his king to find and destroy their most hated adversary — the Angel of Death. Little does he know that his enemy is no man at all, but a beautiful woman who will challenge his heart and honor at every turn.

Forced to choose between love and honor, the Angel and the Prince wage a battle of wills that challenges everything they have ever believed in.

sounds like a yummy cake and I can't remember the name of the book but it would have to be an old harlequin passed down from my grandmother.

Both the cake and the man are YUMMILICOUS....
I think the first romance book I remember reading was The Austrailian by Diana Palmer. I am pretty sure that was the name of it. My grandmother and her sisters got me hooked on romance books. I thank them everyday for introducing me to them.

First that cake sounds sinful :).
I'm sure I read other books but the one that sticks is THE BASTARD by John Jakes. I was 14 for the bi-centennial. I loved that series.

I think it was actually a basic Harlequin, but the one I remember reading was a bodice ripper. I don't remember the title, but the heroine had red hair wih green eyes who married Lord Alexander Trevelyan. Some conflict comes in because her brother is an undercover spy but Alex thinks he's her lover.

The first romance novel that I read and which hooked me into the genre is The Masquerade by Brenda Joyce. She is still one of my favourite romance authors. Prior I may have read some category romances but it was sporadic.

LOL! I hope you guys get a chance to make the Tom Selleck Cake (btw, I *still* don't know why it's called that!)

I am loving all the fun books...I'm searching them now over on goodreads.

Thank you Maria! I am thrilled that you loved Highland Destiny so much :D

Wow Laura, that recipe sounds delicious and you can bet I'll be making it soon. Thanks for sharing.
My first, it had to be a Nora Roberts trilogy called The Three Sisters I believe. It was an amazing read though. Thanks for a look back at Tom Selleck, he's still such a handsome man. :)

I just started reading romance books two years ago *gasp* and I stumbled upon this addiction after my impulse buy of DIVINE BY MISTAKE by P.C. Cast. After that, I couldn't get enough of this genre and my wallet will tell you this is no hobby!

My first romance novel that I remember reading was a teen Avon book called WAITING GAMES. I think I was like 9 or 10. Then I got into VC Andrews books. It was many years until I became addicted to romance novels like I am today.

I believe one of the first romance (though it wasn't purely romance) novels I read was one of Lurlene McDaniel's books. I also read some Love Stories series books during my teen years.

Too many years have passed for me to remember my first romance read. Some were cheesy back then, but fun to read.
