Book Tour: Jae Lynne Davies - Interview + Giveaway
Apr 18, 2011
Jae Lynne Davies has been an avid fan of the paranormal since childhood, when her imagination developed in the form of written word. Shortly after the birth of her second child, she began to weave tales based on elaborate ideas, and before she knew it, she’d created worlds where the passion is hot, relationships are forbidden, and the constant struggle of power leaves readers feeling for the villain today, and the hero tomorrow.
When not playing in her fantasy world, Jae Lynne—a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, now residing in Southern New Jersey, is a wife to a wonderful and supportive husband, and a mother to two young children.
Can you tell us a little bit about the world of Mythic?
The world of Mythic isn’t much different from our own. My vampire/human heroine consumes human food, can walk in the sunlight, and even possesses the ability of telekinesis. My vampires are a mix of the traditional and modern versions. They consume blood, lack a pulse, possess a variety of different abilities, but not all are allergic to sunlight and they all cast reflections. My vamps hunt at night, but my coven is more sophisticated and they choose their victims from the unknowing patrons of Mattias Vitale’s nightclub, “The Haven”. Vampires rule the night, unbeknownst to humans, and they enjoy every second of it.
Can you tell us some juicy stuff about Gianna, Mattias, and Nicholas?
Gianna is a headstrong human/vampire hybrid, hell bent on vengeance for the death of her family. During her mission, she encounters the killer and TWO new problems—vampire coven leader, Mattias Vitale and vampire, Nicholas Sutton. When she grows close to the two men, she begins to question her motives. Killing Mattias sounded simple.
Vampire coven leader, Mattias Vitale is responsible for the death of Gianna’s family. He takes what he wants and makes no apologies, but he has a secret of his own.
Nicholas Sutton is a vampire on a mission to save his father from Mattias’s wrath, no matter who stands in his path. But when he meets Gianna Marino, he has a change of plans.
Each character has their own agenda, but when passion ignites, the rules change. And nothing will ever be the same.
When and where does Mythic take place?
Mythic takes place in modern day London, England, in a world within our own.
What was your inspiration for Mythic?
The idea of Mythic came about during a car ride with my husband. I love vampires, so it was natural for me to write about them. But I knew I needed to be different, and combined vampire DNA with human DNA. Being human is difficult enough, let alone being half vampire…Talk about inner turmoil! Gianna plagued my mind for a while. I already knew so much about her. When I told my husband about Gianna’s constant pestering, he asked questions and I had all of the answers. My hero and villain were also born during the ride. When we arrived home, I typed for hours!
How does Mythic stand out from similar books?
I think the twists in the story and the ending both stand out from other novels. Just when you think you have the story figured out, I’ve added a twist that brings new light to the plot. Also, I don’t believe in an automatic HEA for every single story. I believe in some emotional satisfaction, but sometimes it takes more than one novel to complete a journey, including the weaving of a relationship—a great love that will survive all things.
If your characters could meet and hang out with any other characters in the world, who would they be and why?
Wow! Great question! I think if Gianna could hang out with anyone in the world, I’d see her in the company of Tabitha Devereaux from Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark-Hunter series. I could see them training together. I could also see Gianna surround herself with other hybrid creatures like Tayla Mancuso from Larissa Ione’s Demonica Series. The way Tayla finally accepted her nature, with the help of those around her, could be an inspiration to Gianna…proving she could accept her own existence, and move on.
I can’t picture Mattias and Nicholas hanging out with anyone in particular. Perhaps they should consider hanging out together. After all, they do share similar interests. *wink*
What was your fav part about writing Mythic?
My favorite part about writing Mythic was getting to know my characters. The characters evolved with each page that by the time I reached the end of the story, they were completely different from my initial thought. Also, it was so much fun walking around in the world, living vicariously through their eyes.
Are there any other types of stories you would like to try writing in the future?
In queue, I have a few stories to write, but once those are completed, I’d love to try writing Erotica.

Hi MommaSally,
The idea came crashing in so quickly, you wouldn't believe it! Car rides and even a long walk tend to clear my mind, and allow me to open myself up to the creative muse. Thanks so much for stopping by!
This sounds very good. I love plot twists. I'm one of those that tends to figure a book out real quick. So when you can throw me I love it.
Thanks for the fantastic giveaway.

I like how you choose to combine some aspects of traditional vampire lore with your own versions. And the way that each vamp seems to be unique.

Hi Victoria,
I love plot twists, too. My characters decided they wanted to throw me for a loop (lol). Hope you get a chance to read the novel. I think you'll enjoy the story! Thanks for stopping by.
Hi June,
I think it's important to design mythical races in a similar fashion to human existence. Sure, we all possess similar characteristics and features, but some of us have talents that others lack. Creating my vampires in such a way, does make them unique, and it adds a little spice to the modern lore! Hope you get a chance to read the story. Good luck in the contest and thanks for participating!
This book looks really good. Definitely going to be putting it on my TBR pile. Can't wait to dig in.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy the read!
I love the sound of Mythic but especially love the sound of a "new" strain of vamps. It totally amazes me
that authors can keep this old character fresh.
