Blog Tour with Author Devyn Quinn: Interview + Giveaway
Feb 9, 2011
(from her website)
Devyn Quinn lives in the scenic Southwest, though she has called several other states home. She is a huge fan of dark gothic music & shoot-’em-up action movies. But reading is her first love and Devyn spends too much time with history books, as well as feeding her addiction for celebrity biographies. She especially enjoys reading books on Hollywood before the 1960′s and is crazy about Marilyn Monroe, her legend and her myth.
Devyn lives with her cats, ferrets, and one little single Shih Tzu doggie, Tess.
Refusing to embrace her mermaid heritage, Gwen Lonike prefers to live as a human. All she wants is to run her hotel in Port Rock Maine, in peace. But when her sister Tessa returns from the Mediterranean with news that she had inadvertently opened the gateway to a lost mermaid kingdom–and accidentally freed its dangerous queen–Gwen can no longer hide behind her idyllic life.
Covert-ops agent Blake Whittaker is far from happy when he’s assigned to trail paranormal activity back to him hometown, where he can’t escape crushing memories he’d rather forget. But when he meets and falls for Gwen, he knows he can’t cut and run. Yet how long can he hide his true mission from her? And how long can Gwen and her sisters remain safe from a nemesis bent on their destruction–and from Blake’s own superiors, whose ultimate mission could prove the greatest threat of all?

About Devyn
JJBC-Do you have any hobbies?
DQ: I run a small ferret rescue, which is
dedicated to the rescue and re-homing of the
domestic ferret. Details here:
http://www.texicoferretrescue.org/
JJBC-What do you like to read?
DQ: I mostly enjoy biography and history.
JJBC-Can you tell us some of your favorite
books you've read?
DQ: I loved Angela’s Ashes by Frank McCourt.
I also enjoyed Late, Late at Night
by Rick Springfield. Excellent read.
JJBC-Who are some of your favorite authors?
DQ: Oh, that is a hard one. For fiction I like
John Grisham’s legal thrillers. For non-fiction,
it’s more about the subject than who wrote it.
JJBC-If you can meet any author in person
dead or alive, who would it be and why him/her?
DQ: Definitely Edgar Poe. I would love to
have his talent for the macabre.
Your Writing:
JJBC-How did you first get into writing?
Has it always been your dream?
DQ: I’ve always wanted to write,
and began writing fan fiction in my teens
(Nancy Drew mysteries, LOL). It wasn’t until
my 20’s that I tried to write my first book.
JJBC-What genre do you write?
DQ: I have written in adult action adventure (erotic),
but I’ve recently returned to paranormal romance.
JJBC-Do you have any must haves when
you sit down to write?
DQ: My cup of coffee, plenty of pads
and pens and my gummy bears.
JJBC-Can you tell us how a typical
writing day for you is?
DQ: I set a word goal of 1500 per day.
After I am done, I am free to leave the computer.
If I want to go beyond that, then I continue.
JJBC-What is one thing you think sets
you apart from other authors?
DQ: My style is definitely different and
I have a tendency to blend genres.
Sirens Surrender:
JJBC- Why did you choose the subject of Mermaids?
DQ: I did not choose the subject. Lindsay Nouis, an editor at NAL did. She was looking for a sea themed series. I submitted and proposal, and much to my surprise they bought it.
JJBC-How did you go about researching
the subject of Mer lore?
DQ: On the internet, LOL
JJBC-Since this is the second of your Mer books.
Which book is your favorite and why?
DQ: I think the third, Siren’s Desire,
will be my favorite because it will be the
one that decides the fate of the Mers.
JJBC-Do you have a favorite character in Siren’s Surrender?
If so, who and why?
DQ: I like Blake Whittaker, because he’s just hot, LOL
Extras:
JJBC-Where can readers find you?
DQ: Yep, I am on facebook, twitter and
the like. Just look for Devyn Quinn.
JJBC-Do you have a link to your book list?
DQ: There is a printable booklist on my website.
JJBC-Do you have a newsletter?
DQ: Unfortunately, I just haven’t got the time or brains
to put one together. I do have a Yahoo group
where I make semi-regular announcements.
JJBC-Would you like to stop by and chat with your commenter's today?
DQ: Sure!

I love mermaids! and this series sounds right up my ally.
My question is if you got the chance to write outside of your genres what would it be and why?
vampiremistress2010(at)gmail(dot)com
I have a question AND answer! ^_^
Question for Ms. Quinn:
That's so cool that you run a ferret rescue!!! I take it you have some ferrets of your own? How did you get into rescuing...or even better, what originally drew you to ferrets? (They can be so wonderful...and rambunctious! ^_^)
Answer for JoJo:
As for mermaid-themed books (not counting super old fairy tales), I've not yet any...which is too bad, because I LOVE mermaids as a mystical creature.
But anywho. Great interview! Looking forward to reading this series.
Cheers,
Alisha

Great interview, ladies!
Unfortunately, I have not read any mermaid books! I've seen them around, have a couple on my TBR (including Siren's Call), but have yet to dive in to this growing addition to the supernatural world! However, the books sound great! Thanks for the opportunity!

My only previous experience with mermaid books was "The little mermaid" and it was so sad!!! (no Disney version for me)
Anyway, I just read your review and the interview and I hope I had lucky in the giveaway and this way I'll have 2 books to erase the bad memories :D
Thanks for the international giveaway!

Great interview.I have not read any mermaid books, but this series does sound really good.A great place to start.
Which one of your heroines did you love to write for and will you ever return to them and write more?
elaing8(at)netscape(dot)net
Have you read a Mermaid book? If so what was it and what did you think?
The Mermaid book I enjoyed the most was actually a series - the Fred the Mermaid books by Mary Janice Davidson. I loved that Fred was a half mermaid - who lived on land, loved water and shifting into her mermaid tail, and worked as a marine biologist at an Aquarium.
Barbed1951(at)aol(dot)com
Mary Jane Davidson had a mermaid related story and I enjoyed it; I wouldn't mind reading another one.

The only mermaid book I have read is by Mary Janice Davidson. They were great fun, but Im thinking in a different realm from Devyn's. Looking forward to reading these.
Where do you come up with your character names?

Do you ever build your character's profiles on people you know?
Thx, Lisa

Right now the only mermaid book I remember reading is Forgive My Fins by Tera Lynn Childs.
spav05(at)gmail(dot)com
No, I haven't gotten ahold of a mermaid book, well, besides my daughters books. She's 4, so I don't think that counts. Let's just say I have yet to read an adult mermaid book LOL I've had my eye on your work and am anxious to get ahold of these books. They sound amazing. I have two older boys, so when my daughter came, I was excited to dive into girly things. I can really only take so much ninja tutles. I was excited when she fell in love with mermaids and unicorns, but as I read these stories for here and watch the movies with her, I am dying for an adult type mermaid romance! It's good for her, but I want more :)
june111(at)att(dot)net
I have read a Mermaid book before. It is a series by Judi Fennell called the Mer trilogy. I really enjoyed reading them a lot.

I'm probably already too late for the giveaway, but that's okay :) Just wanted to say hi and that the books seem like a good read as I've never read a mermaid book before. The covers are gorgeous as well, so I will definitely be getting myself a copy!
