My Simple Love of Highlanders
by
AMY
My love of highlanders stems back to when I first really got into reading; well I've been reading heavily since grade 8 (but those were obviously a lot of teen books). But later in high school when I started gravitating toward the adult section in the bookstores, I soon fell in love (or is it lust? hehe!) with highlanders! Shannon Drake's ( http://www.eheathergraham.com/shannondrake.html ) Graham Family Series was among my firsts for those Scottish Alpha Males. I scoured the used bookstores (if any of you know me, then you know how hard it is for me to handle used books) in hopes of finding more of her books. Sadly there are only seven books in this series (so far, you never know what could happen!), but it is a good series that I would recommend to my fellow readers.
Next, of course, was Karen Marie Moning's ( http://www.karenmoning.com/kmm/ ) Highlander Series. I loved how she wove the supernatural into this series and her characters are memorable. I have probably read this entire series at least five times, because I love re-visiting those characters. Another two amazing writers are Hannah Howell ( http://www.hannahhowell.com/ ) and Kinley MacGregor ( http://www.sherrilynkenyon.com/ ). I have re-visited their books more times than I can tell you! These are just a few that are out there, I'm sure there are so many more that I don't know about!

I can't tell you exactly what it is that pulls me so deeply into the world of Highlanders, I guess part of it is just the romance of having a big, strong male to look after the heroine--even if that heroine can hold her own against the world. When I'm reading I become completely immersed in that world and I love the visuals of the Scottish Highlands (well, they come in second compared to the Highlanders themselves!). There are even times when I can get a little jealous of the heroine, I mean; why should she get this great, strong alpha man while I get my average, everyday typical guy? I love my husband (who is of Scottish descent), please don't misunderstand me, but oy, those highlanders...I'd definitely let him leave cookie crumbs in the bed! I guess that is just the power of great storytelling! The most romantic characters to me are those who cover up their heart-melting softer sides, and then when they reveal their tenderness...it just makes me sigh.

Love highlanders. The brouge, the muscles, the kilts...EVERYTHING! They are definately one of my favorite characters to read about.
I love your post! I'm sure with hubs being of Scottish descent he gets the love of Highlander thing ;). I haven't read very many Highlander books but those I have have been SO good. They are the ultimate male.

Great post. I love Highlanders because they are just so damn sexy. They are fierce, passionate, have sexy accents, and take care of the ones they love.

Hi, Amy! :-) Great post! Love me some Highlanders!
Ohhhh! I've been wanting to read this book by Sandy Blair!
I knew Highlander novels were popular but I never thought they were this popular.
I have been amazed how many people are really into them.
Now if only everyone would go to visit the Scottish Highland, think of the increase in tourism that would result !
Thanks for the giveaway.

I love how passionate and devoted the highlanders are...the kilts help too!
There is so many reasons I love highlanders, from their love and devotion to their ladies to their sexy accents. I am stuck on Aidan from the Masters of Time series so far but I know that will change when I read others ;)

Hi Amy, Its kool to see how so many people share the same love of highlanders that I do. It's hard to pick one thing you like most but if I had to it would be the accents. But there is so much more to them than just that. lol Thanks for sharing and offering this great giveaway!

For me the attraction is the accent. I always forgot that Kinley MacGregor (Sherrilyn Kenyon)writes highlander books. Thanks for the reminder.

The attraction for me, to a Highlander, is their unabandoning love for their family! Their Brogue. They are just HAWT!!!
