30 days of Highlanders: Day 8: Interview with Author Laura Hunsaker + Giveaway
May 3, 2011
Laura Hunsaker AKA taught for 3 years, but now that she has children has chosen to stay at home. While reading is fantastic for her over-active imagination, writing leaves her so much more fulfilled. Hard at work on her second novel, she spends way too much time on twitter, and maybe isn't quite so hard at work as she likes to imagine. Laura's first novel Highland Destiny released as an ebook in November, but has done so well, it went to print in March. She has high hopes for her next book, tentatively titled Highland Betrayal. Look for news and updates on her website http://www.laurahunsaker.wordpress.com/
-Did you get to travel to Scotland or Ireland for any research?
No, but I will go to Ireland in Sept, if things go as planned
-Which of your Highlanders was hardest to write?
The first one. Highland Destiny took so much research to make everything accurate for the time period. I had to find out when coffee was first introduced to Britain, when the pocket watch was in mainstream use, primitive shampoos (ie oils and soap), and my personal favorite-the corset wasn't called a corset in Britain until later in the 1800s.
-Do you have any secret obsessions while writing you can‘t live without?
coffee and music :)
-Can you share with us any highlanders your currently working on?
I'm working on two right now actually. Liam MacRae, Connor's brother is my second book, and I'm trying to sneak in bits here and there on my rough copy of the third book.
-What got you started in writing about Highlanders?
A few good Highlander novels, and the Highland Hussy was born! I can't help myself-that combination of possessive and protective gets me fired up every time!
-Can you describe to us your dream highlander?
He'd be taller than I am (I'm 5'9" so I'd love above 6') and he'd be possessive around other men, protective of me, and he'd appreciate me for all my flaws, er, quirks I mean :) and he'd love my goofy sense of humor
-Who is your darkest Highlander / Who is your mildest Highlander?
My darkest? How bout my most broody Highlander? Connor, no doubt. Liam, his younger brother, is more laid back and easy going since he's not laird of the clan. He likes to have fun, and will have to teach his woman, super responsible Marley, how to have fun
-Can you tell us about your Highlanders twitter style? (140 characters or less)
My Highlanders are strong and honorable with a protective instinct, they take what's theirs and hold tight whether it's a lass or their clan
-How do your highlanders differ from others?
Mine are protective and possessive, but they don't overwhelm the heroine. I love a good Alpha male just like the next girl, but I hate having the hero be a complete asshat for no reason than just saying "Oh he's a primitive macho he-man." It never worked for me.
-Are your highlanders paranormal or just historical, and why did you choose that path?
Mine are primarily Historical, but there are the elements of Time Travel, and magic. I wanted my heroine to be sarcastic and spunky and I hate when that type of personality can feel out of place in an Historical Romance. By adding in the twist of time travel, my heroine can now be sarcastic, but have to learn to adapt. The challenge of being a 21st century woman in the 1700s will either bring out the best or the worst in her...sometimes both.
-What would the colors of your Tartan be?
red and black
-Where can readers find you?
-Do you have a link to your book list?
since it's just the one, no, but I have a "buy link"
-Would you like to stop by and chat with the
commenter's in the comment section?
as if you could keep me away! lol

I have to say my fave highlander at this moment is Aidan The Wolf of Awe, he is dark broody but so so hot.
vampiremistress2010(at)gmail(dot)com
Leanne-what a great question! My favorite Highlander is Adam Black from Karen Marie Moning's series, because dayum, have you read about him yet? I'll take him any day of the week!
And my favorite fan memory is being recognized at a Starbucks. first time I ever felt like "Holy crap this is real!" It was awesome!
Hi Kat! Thank you so much for all the lovely praise-seriously thank you. And oh yes, Connor will be back :) I wouldn't leave him out. And book number three is Jenna.. but she's pretty mad at Mackenzie for bailing on her...
Bakin goddess-LOL! well hopefully random.org will look favorably on you today and you can win a copy of HD :)
BLH Mistress, Aidan is quite dark and broody, but have you read about Ian yet? now there's a tortured hero!
BTW, did you guys see that hottie up there ^^^man can JoJo pick the hunkilicious men!
Great Interview!
And what a friggin hot author!
I have bought the book last Jan. And loved it. Can't wait for Liam's book.

There is no way I can pick 1 Highlander above the rest! They are all delicious!
Congrats on the new book and best of luck!
GFC: June M.
Hi Ang! aww, thanks :D since I'm sitting here in my pjs, with no makeup, it's nice to know someone thinks I look hot! lol
June, thanks :) I appreciate it
Honestly I don't have a favorite Highlander hero. I love all that I have read. But since I have to choose one, I'll make it the first one I ever read - Kresley Cole's Courtland MacCarrick.
Thanks for the giveaway. I'm loving these guys!
vsloboda(at)gmail(dot)com
Ooh, Court was hot, but I think Ethan was my favorite MacCarrick brother. Great choice, Victoria!
I loved Ethan too. He was so stupid when it came to women you just had to cheer him on. I loved the way the book ended too. If she ever finds the time maybe she'll revist the MacCarricks.
vsloboda(at)gmail(dot)com
Hi Laura,
I am so excited that your book is now in print. I'll be buying it as quick as possible. It's so hard to pick a favorite as I'm a Highlander Hussy too. :)I love them all. But 2 of my weaknesses are Jamie Fraser from Outlander and Deagus MacKelter from KMM's Highlanders.

Victoria- That would be really cool if she went back to her Highlanders :) (Kresley Cole is one of my fave authors, btw)
Carol- Hi! thanks so much! Daegus is quite sexy...Karen Marie Moning can really make a great Highlander-I am soo hoping Christian MacKeltar gets his own book, because I will take him and add him to my harem with Adam ;P
Great interview, Laurie! I think I have to agree with you about Adam Black. Or maybe Cian. But that could change after I read HD! I'm sure you've created a highland hottie that I just can't do without. :)
Oh, I also wanted to ask who Christian MacKeltar is. How have I missed him??
he was only 17 in Kiss of the highlander, but he's in his 20s in the Fever Series...which you should totally read Nissie!
Thanks, Laurie! I hope to get to the Fever Series very soon!
Honestly I don't have a favorite Highlander. I need to read some more books before I can pick one. I will say that I love that Highlanders are super sexy.
iqb99@yahoo.com
Hey love just stopping by to say hi! I loved the interview!
I have HD but I'm waiting to read it. I have a Highlander pile going. I have to read one book before I start my Highlander books! You'll get my review of course! LOL!
Hey Meg!! Thanks doll!
Danielle, maybe Connor will be your favorite? Lol
I might be slow on responding since I'm AT A SHERRILYN KENYON SIGNING!!!!! Squeee!!!
Oh, jeeze.... such a hard question! :-) But I'm gonna say Conner from Kerrelyn Sparks' Love At Stake series! Broody, moody, and yummy! Just the way I like 'em! ;-)
James 'Jamie' Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser. Hands down.
midnite dot fantasy at gmail dot com
Ooh, Chelsea, good choice!
Camille-I think soo many many women would agree with that one!
I too have already read and loved Highland Destiny!
When I first read KMM Highlander's I didn't like Adam but ended up falling up in love with him!
Aww, Maria, I didn't know that! thanks :D
And yeah, Adam was kind of an asshat in the first book...but don't they make the best reformed men? *swoon*
Highland Destiny sounds good, and congrats on getting it published in print from an ebook. I honestly don't have a favourite highlander, I haven't really read enough yet.
jessicamariesutton(at)msn(dot)com
