Blog Bash Day 15 with Patti O’Shea + Giveaway
Aug 19, 2011
Happy blogoversary, JoJo!
Congratulations on two years and thank you for inviting me to be part of the celebration.
When I write, I like to have pictures of my main characters at hand. It takes me about 6-8 months to write a book and this way I don't have to worry about the description of my hero or heroine changing midstream. My characters make me work, though, and I have to find just the right picture or I get sarcastic comments.
What can I say? Some authors get nice, cooperative characters. These authors get to pick their names, what they look like, what kind of home they live in, and they might even get to tell them what to do. Me? I get dictated to by my imaginary people. But that's another story.
I'm always on the lookout for images, and when I saw this magazine cover online, I knew I'd found my hero for Enemy Embrace (part of the CRAVE THE NIGHT anthology coming out in October). Dak is a demon and he's assigned the job of executing a vampire who's been murdering humans. The problem is that his heroine, Nicole, wants to kill this vampire herself and neither of them is willing to stand down for the other.
For Friday's Forgot About Finds, there are so many books I could mention here that I've read and loved enough to reread again and again, but I think I'll go with BAD TO THE BONE by Debra Dixon. It was released by Bantam Loveswept in the mid-90s and it's my favorite category romance of all time.
BTTB is an edgy story that really pushed the envelope at the time. The heroine, Jessica, is a retired assassin, the hero, Sully, is a small-town detective who used to police the mean streets of Houston, TX. They're brought together by a twelve-year-old girl whose father has been kidnapped and they end up working together to save him.
There's awesome banter between the hero and heroine and also incredible chemistry. These are two wounded characters who need each other to heal, but they don't trust easily. Their relationship isn't simple and things become more complicated once they become lovers. Truly a great read!

Shadow's Caress
by: Patti O'Shea
A vampire trapped in a hellish limbo has one hope of regaining his life as the undead—the hunter who tried to kill him.
Former vampire hunter Cass Lanier didn't think vampires could become ghosts...until the shade of Malachi James comes to her, arousing her with his erotic touch. Malachi was the last vampire she killed—an act she always regretted. Now Cass is his only hope of being brought back to life.
Then Cass discovers Malachi isn't the only one following her. Other hunters have learned she can resurrect the vampires she put to death, and they want to kill her first. Will Cass survive long enough to save Malachi and finally experience her phantom lover's caresses as pleasures of the flesh?

25 Hottie Follwers Thoughts:
I have always liked "The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty" series by Anne Rice (though she uses a pen name for that one, which I don't remember).
thanks! jason [at] jasonkivela [dot] com
That's a new twist for a vampire novel, the ability to bring the ones you've killed back to life.
I DNF a book by Claire Thompson, which her website was up front with it being about extreme BDSM. I was like, oh yeah, sure. Well, I needed a shower to clean myself and didn't finish it. It was all about debasement, a true nameless slave kind of story with what I considered torture. Not for me. I have read her other, lighter books and enjoyed them. (I had not quite as extreme a reaction to The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty, which I won, also DNF.)
I really don't know if I have read a book that pushed the boundaries. I did read Bad To The Bone when it came out though. I really liked it and your right, it was pushing the line of what Loveswept put out at that time.

I am reading Primal Law and it is "out" there..BUT I love it!! I love giveaways and your blog!

I don't think I have anything really out there that is a favorite. The best I can come up with are the Riley Jenson books.

I think really deep books that I have read would be Whitley Striber's Billy and Noel Hynd's A Room for the Dead, both stick with me after reading then when they first came out and that has been years and years ago.

My favourites tends to change from time to time, but at the moment, my favouritest has to be Carol Berg's Breath And Bone! I soooo want another book in that series!! :)

Noel Hynd's "A Room for the Dead" is good. Out there? Kay Hooper's Bishop group or Jim Butcher's Dresden Files is about as "out there" as I get.
I too keep pictures of my h/h .. I take 8x12 cardboard pieces and plaster it with them. Then I prop it up on the desk while I write.
I have to say Eternal Seduction by Jennifer Turner, was a bit edgier and different than I have read and it fastly became one of my favorite reads this year.
vampiremistress2010(at)gmail(dot)com
I loved Amy Lane's Little Goddess Series! It isn't really edgy just out of the normal. I love books that make you open your mind to things out of the normal and have such vivid characters.

I like Anne Stuart's Ice series because she writes heroes who are dark and bad. Some of them are deadly assassins who are so bad and sexy, they are more like "anti-heroes".
angeldream3[AT]gmail[DOT]com
I am going to say the Fever books by Karen Marie Moning. They were my first UF books so at the time they were different and now I'm hooked on the genre.

I have Through a Crimson Veil so please don't enter me in the giveaway. I just wanted to say that Patti is one of my favorite authors and everyone should check out her books.
I always have trouble thinking of a "favorite" book for anything, but a book I just read that I thought was out of the ordinary is Stacey Jay's Dead on the Delta, which features killer fairies and one messed up heroine. I loved it.
I really like Dangerous Boys and Their Toy. I consider it edgy. Some people might just think it's dirty. I can't even explain what I like about it. Thanks for the giveaway.

I'd have to say J.R. Ward's BDB series. It's not your typical Vampire series!!! It's what got me hooked on vamp romance!!!! :-) Thanks for the chance to win!!!

I'm not sure which of my favorite books might be considered edgy by some people. I read such a large variety of books, from mainstream historical romance, to spicier historical romances by Jess Michaels, Delilah Marvelle, etc. I also read alot of paranomals from lighter, fun series by Lynsay Sands, Kerrelyn Sparks, Katie MacAlister to some that are more intense by Larissa Ione, Gena Shoewalter, the BDB series, just starting KMM books. I also read alot of erotic romances with paranormal and/or BDSM in them including authors like Eve Langlais, Claire Thompson, Justus Roux, and soooo many more. As I said, I read a variety!

INVITATION TO ECSTASY by Nina Pierce was way out there for me. BDSM is not usually my thing, but I enjoyed it.
marypres(AT)gmail(DOT)com
I think that Thomas Perry's Jane Whitfield series beginning with Vanishing Act is definitely different and edgy. While not a total paranormal read it does have elements of the paranormal and suspense to beat the band. Thanks for sharing today and for the lovely giveaway opportunity.

I can't really think of any edgy book. I know I love the Twilight series. That is my favorite read. Please enter me in contest. Tore923@aol.com
Thank you all for the comments! I'm going to check out some of the titles after I make my August 31 deadline. I always enjoy finding new stories.
Story of O. I didn't know it at first beacause it's just a plain white book all over, but it's about extreme BDSM. And when I first started reading it I was like 'What! This is TORTURE! And she LIKES it!?' Some of the things that happened in that novel was just..eh.. out of the ordinary, to say the least.
ruby95660[at]yahoo[dot]com
I have read a couple shorts by Selena Kitt and they were a bit out there.
beckerjo at verizon dot net
JR Ward's are probably the most "out there" books that I've read. Most of what I read was considered "out there" 10 years ago but is pretty "normal" now.
