Blog Bash Day 7 with Leanna Renee Hieber + Giveaway

Aug 9, 2011

OLDER READ

Ever since I read The Picture of Dorian Gray, it has remained with me, it haunts me with its hidden layers, its sensuality, its bold darkness and paranormal threads, its controversy and beauty, it captured my imagination and since then, I've always wanted to write a haunted painting novel. And finally I have, as my November YA release, DARKER STILL: a Novel of Magic Most Foul combines many of my great Gothic loves as they mix their way onto my page in new and original ways.

Dorian Gray, a handsome young man, receives a beautiful painting of himself from his good friend Basil Hallward. In the same moment, a new acquaintance, Lord Henry, introduces Dorian to the ideals of youthfulness and hedonism, of which Gray becomes immediately obsessed. Meanwhile, the painting in Dorian's possession serves as a constant reminder of his passing beauty and youth, driving his obsession.

 EARL GREY MARTINI

Why this? Well, each of my series has attached to it a specific tea that I drink while writing (I'm a bit of a tea addict), and the tea is evocative of my hero's scent. For Alexi of the Strangely Beautiful saga, he's clove tea. I drink it while working on the series because it brings me closer to him in a sensual way. And for Jonathon Whitby, Lord Denbury, the hero of my Magic Most Foul series, he's Earl Grey. I am a huge fan of Earl Grey tea. I also quite enjoy a good martini. What could be bettern than an Earl Grey martini??!!

Ingredients
1 teaspoon Earl Grey tea leaves
2 (1.5 fluid ounce) jiggers gin
white sugar, for rimming
1 wedge lemon
1 (1.5 fluid ounce) jigger fresh lemon juice
2 fluid ounces simple syrup

Leanna's upcoming release
DARKER STILL:
a Novel of Magic Most Foul:
(From the back cover):

New York City, 1880:

“I was obsessed. It was as if he called to me, demanding I reach out and touch the brushstrokes of color swirled onto the canvas. It was the most exquisite portrait I’d ever seen. Everything about Lord Denbury was unbelievable-- utterly breathtaking and eerily lifelike.

There was a reason for that. Because despite what everyone said, Denbury never had committed suicide. He was alive. Trapped within his golden frame.

I’ve crossed over into his world within the painting and I’ve seen what dreams haunt him. They haunt me too. He and I are inextricably linked- bound together to watch the darkness seeping through the gas-lit cobblestone streets of Manhattan. And unless I can free him soon, things will only get darker still..."

Releasing 11/11 from Sourcebooks Fire, read the first 30 pages on the Darker Still page of Leanna's website: http://leannareneehieber.com/

Am I a short term visitor or do I have to stay? I would love to see early civilizations. I mean King Tut, Inca Empire or the Scottish highlands before the wars with England. But only for a short stint. If it was long term, then I will stay put, thank you.

While I adore the Victorian way,
I think I'll have to say Pompeii
To revel in the great display
That featured in the city's heyday.

But I'd like to leave, if you please,
Before being trapped in a volcano's sneeze.

If time travel is like it a romance novel, any time period would be interesting. However, the practical side of me would keep myself right where it is with equal rights (more or less) and good health care.
