Blog Bash Day 18 with Jae Lynne Davies + Giveaway
Aug 24, 2011
Hi Everyone!
I’m Jae Lynne Davies, author of paranormal romance and urban fantasy.
I’m so happy to be a part of the celebration. First, a huge hug to JoJo. Congrats on two years of fantastic blogging! You deserve to party for a job well done!
Whenever I write, I’m one of those authors who tends to have a specific visual in mind for my main characters. While I know readers like to envision their own version of their favorite characters, I thought it might be interesting for you to see who comes to mind when I think of my own cast running around in the world of MYTHIC. Besides, it’s nice to picture a face at the mention of a name, or if I want to toss a character into the bottomless pit of literary nothingness. Yes, they sometimes drive me mad, but it’s not ENTIRELY their fault.
You want to see hotties? I’ll be happy to show you two of them who drive me to the brink of insanity on a regular basis, but it’s difficult to be frustrated when they look SO good.
In the initial character development stages of my novel, MYTHIC, I knew from the start who my hero, vampire Nicholas Sutton resembled. Jesse Metcalfe IS Nicholas. His obsidian colored hair and soulful gem-toned eyes are among some of the traits Nicholas possesses.
Then there’s my delicious villain, vampire Mattias Vitale. I have to thank my brilliant cover artist, Stella Price for using the tattooed model on the book cover because he’s a DEAD RINGER for Mattias (see MYTHIC cover photo below). I don’t even know this hottie’s name, but if someone does, please email me. :P Yes, Mattias is shaved bald. In the novel, you’ll see that in the past, he had beautiful black hair. I figured I’d give him a more formidable look. He is badass, of course.
Blurb: Centuries after the death of her family, human/vampire hybrid, Gianna Marino is determined to shed the blood of the vampire responsible.Disguising herself as a human wanting to be turned, she infiltrates the enemy’s coven with the hope of bending him to her will and destroying him from the inside. But when a handsome stranger enters the scene and is lured into their seductive game that results in a heated love triangle, she discovers a secret that blurs the lines between good and evil, forever changing the course of her existence, and destiny will soon determine on which side she’ll stand
Want a sneak peek? I’m currently working on BLOOD MOON, the sequel to MYTHIC. Dante Diakos (the lead male character) is haunting my dreams. Here’s the visual of Dante.
Romulo Pires as Dante |
Now that I’ve shared the images running amuck in my mind, I’ll give you a recipe to go along with the eye candy.
Vampire’s Kiss
~ One part cherry vodka (chilled)
~ One part champagne
~ Splash of grenadine
Direction: In a martini glass, pour vodka then top with champagne. Add grenadine last to achieve the “blood” effect. Enjoy!
My favorite read? Well, there are three novels I tend to pull off my shelf when I want to lose myself in someone else’s world.
Joey W. Hill’s Beloved Vampire.
Lord Mason – A vampire master skilled in a variety of different ways. Yes, Lord Mason KNOWS pleasure with a capital “P”. Joey W. Hill possesses a writing skill so profound, she’ll have you experiencing a wave of emotion though the entire novel. Oh, and keep a glass of ice water handy while reading this one. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself coming back for another helping.
Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Night Play.
Goodness, it doesn’t get much hotter than Vane Kattalakis. An Arcadian who shifts into a wolf and has an eye for Bride, who isn’t your every day heroine. *sigh*
Larissa Ione’s Pleasure Unbound.
When it comes to demons, Larissa does them best! I find myself revisiting scenes between demon doctor Eidolon and demon slayer Tayla. Their chemistry level is through the roof!
Now for my W's?!?! question to you. Since I’ve shared the books I enjoy revisiting,
which book could you read over again until the cover is worn?
Thanks for having me, JoJo! I’m looking forward to celebrating with you again next year!

26 Hottie Follwers Thoughts:
I have heard lots of good things about this book. I loved Jae Lynn's book The Contract and am sure that I will also love this.
A book that I could read over and over: I have a few. I love Laurell K Hamilton's Blue Moon, Jeanienne Frost's Halfway to the Grave, Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, and any Charlaine Harris Sookie Stackhouse books.
I love to read and am always looking for new books and authors to check out.
thanks for the giveaway and the chance to win.

This is hard to admit but I have read the Twilight series 4 times. I have also read the first three Demonica books of Larissa Ione's twice each. I love them.
Great post. The guy you've picked as Dante is so handsome!
Thanks for the giveaway.

I actually prefer to know exactly how the author pictures the character. I'm obviously in the minority since most covers have the heads cut off or in shadow now.
I would read Magic Strikes by Ilona Andrews over and over. There's a touch more romance and I love the action.

There are many books that I could read over and over. Larissa Ione's books and if I am wanting something light and fun, Kerrelyn Sparks, Lynsay Sands, Katie MacAlister, and Eve Langlais books. There are also some historical romances that I have read repeatedly.
I reread J.D. Robb's In Death series over and over. Also Kay Hooper's Bishop Books all of the trilogies. There are really so many in many different genres to name.

Chris,
I'm SO happy to hear you enjoyed THE CONTRACT. I love Diana and Cole! They were so much fun to write.
I'm a huge fan of Larissa's Demonica series, too. It's difficult to choose which book I like best, but I could read them all again.
I haven't read the Sookie Stackhouse novels, but I'm a HUGE True Blood fan and never miss an episode. The novels are on the TBR list.
Good luck in the contest!
Hey Victoria,
Thanks for stopping by!
I've read the Twilight novels and lost myself in the world of Forks, Washington just like everyone else. So you're in good company! LOL
And I agree with you, I can't get enough of Larissa's books, either!
Good luck in the contest!
Hi Anne,
I'm glad to hear that you like to see an author's vision of the characters. I'm the same way. Though I have my own version for my favorite reads, it's interesting to know if my version is even close to what the author had in mind.
Thanks for stopping by!
Hey June!
So glad you stopped by! Wow, another Larissa fan! I haven't read any of your favorite reads yet, but they've come highly recommended. Now, just to tackle that ever growing pile of novels to read!
Thanks again for commenting!
Hey Michelle,
Thanks for commenting. I agree with you. I have so many favorites in a variety of different genres, it's difficult to name them all. Great to hear that you read a variety of genres, too!
Thanks again for stopping by!
A book that I read over and over is Wicked Ties by Shayla Black. I have also lent out this book so many times that it is falling apart. And I always manage to pick up something that i did not notice before when I read the book over. :)
Great post.i love Jesse Metcalfe.
I have never read a book more than one time. And I don't think I ever will.

When my TBR pile is manageable (yeah, right), I would love to re-read the Alien Huntress series by Gena Showalter. And the Black Dagger Brotherhood by JR Ward.

Hey Xander!
Thanks for joining me today! Wow, you're brave to lend out your favorite book. While I'm all for spreading the love of a story as far as your voice can carry, I get nervous lending my favorite book.
I've done the same and shared my copy of my favorite book, but I usually end up buying it again for fear I won't get it back. I can't help it.
Thanks again for stopping by!
Hi Elaing8,
I'm happy to hear you share my admiration for Jesse. There's something about him that just connected with my hero. It also helps that he's so easy on the eyes.
Hey JoAnna!
Thanks for stopping by. My TBR pile is the same way. OUT OF CONTROL. But the BDB series is at the top of that stack. I here so many great things, I can't wait to read those!
Without a doubt , Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunters, Larissa Ione's Demonica series, BDB series by JR Ward Lord series by Gena Showalter , I could go on and on LOL.

Hey BLHMistress!
Thanks for joining the party. I love your reading selections! I'm a dark paranormal/urban fantasy girl, myself so my selections tend to lean toward that genre.
Good luck in the contest!
Thank you so much for sharing about these interesting reads today. I think one the books I have revisited to the point where the cover has been taped together over and over is Cerulean Sins by Laurell Hamilton, for some reason that and Narcissus in Chains seem to be read the most for me.
dz59001[at]gmail[dot]com
I could read Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling series books over and over again. It's one of my very favorite series.
angeldream3[AT]gmail[DOT]com
Love a Dark Rider. I forgot who it was by but its an amazing book and I loved it! It's also the first romance I've ever read.

I would read the Twilight series over and over again. I love it. Please enter me in contest. I would love to read this book. Tore923@aol.com
BDB, Demonica series, Night Huntress (Cat & Bones), Fever Series, Lord of the Underwold, Immortals after Dark. Another that I love that is Amy Lanes Little Goddess Series.
I could go on and on about books that I love. I would read them over and over if there weren't so many other fanastic books coming out everyday!
